@lucasjmaxwell I have one who does this and leaves their little pile of comics where they sit (always in the same space). I just leave them there and every other day the titles in the pile change 😊

There’s a student who comes to the #library every day & reads Bunny vs Monkey. Doesn’t borrow them, just sits & reads & goes. I have copies ready every morning. We nod at each other & that’s the extent of our interaction. IMO there are very few places a kid can do this, just be.

@DapsDraws funding was very different. There was so much hope and for a while there was a real focus on reading in general and lots on the under-fives. But cuts, parents working long hours plus the arrival of smart phones have done so much damage ☹️ 2/2

@DapsDraws The demise of Sure Start and the cuts in funding for Bookstart has been catastrophic. A long time ago I wrote a dissertation on the importance of the books for the under-fives in developing readers. It was at the infancy of Bookstart, the beginning of Blair's Britain where 1/

This is why while we, in secondary schools, work really hard around reading, it can be an uphill "battle" because students lost reading interest/stamina years ago. Having librarians in most secondaries but not in primaries is pointless and outdated.

@PaulWat5 Jeffers' title Begin Again isn't necessarily for children and isn't about kindness or refugees but more of a "we are one" message which I think is vital when fighting the "us and them" narrative we are seeing
