dear open labs, and i mean this with love. you keep dropping these trillion parameter giants and they're genuinely beautiful and i can't run a single one of them, none of us can, they land on huggingface to a standing ovation and then they just sit there, because the only machines that can load them are the same datacenters we were all trying to get free of. i watched local ai turn into something real this year, people running 27b models on one gaming card, an 8gb board doing work that needed a server a year ago, whole little communities forming around whatever fits on the hardware already sitting on the desk, and that's the part that actually reaches people, the revolution nobody's putting on a keynote slide. so here's the fair ask, give us the 40b dense, give us the 120b moe, the sizes a person with one good card or a 128gb box at home can actually hold and run and learn from and build on, because not everything has to be shaped for an enterprise with a rack to spare. the frontier is thrilling and i'll keep cheering every open weight you ship, i mean that, but the ground is where most of us live and the ground is quietly running out of models it can lift. build for the hardware we already own. that's where the next wave comes from, it always was. with love, from someone running yours on a laptop at midnight.

Blender just became a prompt box. With Kimi K3 connected through Blender MCP, you can describe a scene like this in plain English and let the model handle the ugly part: terrain, buildings, lighting, materials, camera movement, animation, and the Python scripts holding everything together. The interesting part is not the first render. Kimi can inspect the result, notice that the camera clips through a tree or the city looks suspiciously like plastic, then edit the actual Blender scene and render it again instead of restarting from zero. You still need taste, because “make it cinematic” remains one of humanity’s least useful instructions. But the distance between an empty Blender file and a fully editable 3D world just got embarrassingly small. A few years ago, creating this meant weeks of modeling, scripting, lighting, and animation. Now you can describe the world, watch Kimi build it, and spend your time fixing the final 10% instead of manually constructing the first 90%. Kimi K3 + Blender MCP is basically text-to-3D without trapping the result inside a useless generated video. Every object, material, light, camera, and keyframe stays editable.

I can co-sign this. My best friend went to MIT and graduated first in his class for mechanical engineering. He then went on to get his doctorate at MIT in materials engineering. He indicated that the biggest problem at MIT was that everyone wanted to create apps. Meanwhile, he built a company dedicated to developing vapor-deposited polymer coatings for industrial thermal systems. Huge application in power plants, sugar factories, etc. Couldn't get the funding.

Yesterday, before they took down Fable 5, I was able to build a 3D editor tool that turns text into low poly 3D assets for games. It does work also with Opus 4.8 and GPT 5.5 but obviously Fable 5 was a bit more mindblowing. This doesn't use technology like Meshy or Tripo. Each model is built with a STEP file format, which LLMs understand well and it also allows for super easy editing, like: "Make the countertop bigger". The second part, was solving a fast way to texture those assets using AI image generation, combined with texture projection. In the 4 images here there: 1) Initial concept art. 2) Concept transformed into a CAD sheet. 3) A rendered image at a specific camera angle. 4) Text-to-3D with STEP and Texture projection. The interesting unlock that game developers should fully embrace is that AI makes it much easier to create custom tools for exactly what your game needs. In the past, a developer had to jump between many different tools, each with its own workflow, limitations, and learning curve. Now you could build a focused tool in a day, use it immediately, and keep adding features only when the project actually needs them. Not every tool needs to be a product. Not every pipeline needs to be universal. Sometimes the best tool is the one built quickly for a very specific job.
