Your bitcoin wallet is only as secure as the secret behind it. That secret starts with entropy: random information used to create your seed words. Weak or predictable entropy can create predictable wallets. That is why wallet developers must take seed generation seriously. In BlueWallet, you can add your own entropy with coin flips or dice rolls. This was one of my first major contributions to the project, and recent events show why this option matters.

In BW we don’t use sha256 to join entropy, just simple concatenation. 1-4 on the dice will give you 2 bits, 5-6 - 1 bit. That is why you will have different amount of entropy in cold card and in BW for the same number of throws. If you give BW enough entropy it will not mix any from the system

@ChrisGathe @Rajatsoni I did that too plus @bluewalletio alongside. Coldcard and SeedSigner came up with the same seed - BlueWallet wanted to add entropy from my iPhone RNG because it only counts 1 dice roll = ~1.75 bit instead 2.585. Not sure I like having Apple RNG forced on my entropy.

I plan to continue using my coldcard I have an MK4 bought around 2022-2023 The only reason why I will keep it is because I used dice rolls to generate my seed phrase I highly recommend you do this for yourself Never rely on a random number generator to be random enough

@ovitrif Computed, you mean app does the math? Yes. But it is so simple you can do it on a piece of paper to verify and get the same result. To join entropy we don’t use sha256, just concatenation. So the only complicated part is a checksum

@overtorment @paulmillr @bluewalletio iOS version uses the built-in AVFoundation framework, which is part of the OS. I don't see any benefits to switching to our own implementation here
