Really wish more people online realized that there are very clear reasons both thematically and narratively as to why these duels are choreographed and paced the way they are. Faster and more flashy choreography is not always needed, and doesn’t automatically make one duel better than another. If every lightsaber battle looked like The Prequels, it would become exceptionally boring.

Real talk: Optimus Prime's death is the reason anyone remembers Transformers to this day, and this movie (and our yuppie moms' reactions to it) is why cartoons began to suck starting in the late 80s. They used to not talk down to us, but after a million moms complained about crying kids in the theater, they completely lost their nerve. Meanwhile we had experienced a generation-defining moment. Ever since, killing Optimus Prime in any context has felt cheap, predictable, and lame.

Transformers: The Movie (1986) is one of the most traumatic animated films ever. Optimus Prime’s death hit so hard that parents flooded Hasbro with letters: kids crying, not eating. Hasbro resurrected him, and Prime’s been killed and brought back in almost every iteration since.

The funny thing is, I don’t remember ever hearing any issues with it up until enough people cried about it.
