Labour's GE election pitch was simply "We aren't the Tories". Easily enough to get them elected. But both parties have abandoned their basic positions. Hence the rise of the two populist parties, Reform and Green. (By populist, I mean long on rhetoric, short on competence).
James Armstrong@PoliticoTeacher

I have a BA and an MA in Politics, I've taught it for more than a decade & I'm obsessively interested in it. After almost two years of Labour government, I have absolutely no idea what their pitch to the electorate is.

The Greens see no connections. To them, mass immigration has no link to housing or healthcare strains. Net zero has no link to energy bills or rising prices. Everything is ideological. That's why they can't even run a local council competently.
Saul Staniforth@SaulStaniforth

.@faizashaheen: "We fixate on this issue, on stop the boats.. meanwhile our bills are going up, are housing is so expensive, our childcare costs are insane" Spot on. The rich and powerful want us angry at refugees rather than being angry at the real problem - them.

It's easy to to demand that "they" need to do things. But what happens when 'you' become the 'they'? Brighton is Green Party central. They were an absolute shambles. Labour were voted in to sort out the mess. But it's still messy.

The Greens are a really interesting political experiment. A mixture of Leninism and anarcho-syndicalism with added dashes of libertarianism and fascism. It's as if they're trying to appeal to every strand of intellectual utopian fantasy.

🟢 Green candidates in revolt after refusing to renounce call to abolish jails. Party HQ had claimed Kate Nevens supported prisons as “last resort”. But she says she wants “complete abolition”. Opponents say Greer and Mackay have lost control of bonkers candidates. Link⬇️

I've commented before on VAR as a metaphor for DEI. A clear reason for its introduction, but then becomes overbearing and time-wasting with as many injustices as without it.
Henry Winter@henrywinter

Premier League fans deliver damning verdict on VAR. 75% of 7,946 fans polled by the Football Supporters’ Association “didn’t support the use of VAR”. Too long, too forensic, too much of a joy killer, fans say. Findings shared with Premier League and PGMO. 92% of fans surveyed “agreed” that “VAR has removed the spontaneous joy of goal celebrations” (82% of them “strongly agreed”). 85% of match-going fans “strongly disagreed” with the notion that “VAR makes watching football more enjoyable”. And 83% of those watching on TV. 85% of match-going fans “strongly disagreed” that “VAR decisions are generally resolved in a reasonable amount of time”. Echoed by 83% of those watching on TV. Only 18% agreed that “VAR has improved the overall accuracy of refereeing decisions”. 72% are “concerned about the expansion of VAR beyond its current remit”. 79% “strongly disagreed” with the suggestion “that the match-going experience is better with VAR”. 67% “strongly agreed” that they preferred “watching games that are played without VAR to games with VAR”. 84% “strongly support” goal-line technology. 34% “strongly opposed” to the idea of a challenge system (two per game per team). “These findings back up the FSA's previous survey in 2021, where fans expressed misgivings about the introduction of VAR,” says Thomas Concannon, @WeAreTheFSAPremier League network manager. “The vast majority are reporting the same concerns five years on - the loss of spontaneity when celebrating goals, and an overall worsening of the match-going experience. We have shared the survey results with the Premier League and PGMO, and look forward to discussing its findings with them.” Fans surveyed of all PL clubs and all ages (Under-18 to 65+).

When large numbers of demonstrators break the law the police aim to keep the peace. It makes their day easier. So they'll shut down lawful small-scale opposition. This is a policy of appeasement. History shows us this only emboldens the violent.
Gill ‘the Ultracrepidarian’ Levy 🇬🇧 🇮🇱@fatdafevy

This video encapsulates the @UKTogetherAll March for some Jews who attended. The police separated some Jews and allies from the anti-racist march because they were Zionists. The reason to keep them safe from everyone else. So people who believe in Jewish self-determination in their ancestral home land can't be anti-racists and need to be protected from anti-racists. They are not the anti-racists they think they are. @OurFightUk @joshxhowie
