Please take some time to tell the people you love what they mean to you. Life is more fragile than we mostly allow ourselves to realize.

@jjdonkey @north0fnorth Before the interstates, the US highways were motorists’ main way into the city. US 41 runs along Lincoln Ave for a fair ways, so you get all those motor lodges along Lincoln to serve travelers.

@Eric_Erins When in Chicago, go to Albany Park for middle eastern food. Theres a lot of excellent food within a few blocks of Kedzie and Lawrence.

So many people recommended me to go to Dearborn Mi for the middle eastern food when I was in Detroit but I never hear people recommending people to go to Bridgeview or drive down Harlem for Middle Eastern food when they’re in Chicago. Why is that? Just too far?

@LinaIonescu @TerribleMaps I get kind of lost in the Balkans and I’m not sure without checking whether Estonia is north of Latvia or vice versa, but enough of the history we’re taught in school involves European history that it’s hard to avoid knowing most European countries.

@UpperPeninsula The main difference in the feel for me is that the Soo is a metro with like 80% of its population being in Canada. Also for me it’s weird for a UP town to have an interstate running through it, but that’s a trait it shares with St. Ignace.

@Osteolith What you call the left strikes me as a coalition of people aware of, and frequently at odds with, each others views. Famously no one likes liberals— progressives dismiss them as establishment shills, and conservatives just consider liberal to be another word for communist.

It's generally a closely related family of views, not a monolith. And I was largely thinking of you personally when I specified that not all Leftists are surprised that alternative views exist. But I stand by my statement. You argue both sides well. Try explaining the fundamental connection between small government and basic human freedom to a few random Leftists sometime like you really mean it and believe in it as an experiment sometime, and see what happens yourself. They've generally honestly never even heard this highly prevalent viewpoint before, or as nearly as I can tell any other political viewpoint that's at all different from what the Democrat Party espouses at any sort of deeper philosophical level. I suspect the schools no longer teach any alternative viewpoints (or at least not those that vary to the Right), and I know from personal experience that the mainstream media never so much as gives them a minute's worth of airtime anymore except in "evil strawman" form. I would further submit that this highly prevalent utter lack of comprehension and familiarity by the Left towards the Right is a significant contributor (though far from the only factor) towards why politics are so nasty today. Apparently we seem somehow scary and alien, despite the fact that our core philosophies have deeper roots in American history than theirs, and that roughly half the population (as measured by presidential ballots) are conservatives. This is not a Good Situation for anyone.

Far from 100% true. But mostly, yes. Most liberals that you meet in day to day life honestly don't seem aware that there are any coherent alternative viewpoints out there about almost anything, other than the ones the Left espouses. And they call us unimaginative conformists!

@Osteolith In this experiment am I talking to someone who like me has heard the principles of a small govt that leaves people alone at least paid lip service their entire adult life, or someone only familiar with current politics which places those with these principles in the wilderness?

@RWTNews @KamalaHQ That’s… not better. If we’re to steel man that word salad, I gather that he’s saying that we’ll give parents the money from “taxing other countries”, by which I assume he means tariffs, which is really just taxing American consumers. What time of day was this? Is he sundowning?

@KamalaHQ As they always do, Kamala HQ used a deceptively edited clip that left out the context. It was a very involved question about Child Care which was very off topic for the Economic Club of New York. Trump's answer was tailored for his audience and the topic which was the economy.

Q: What specific legislation will you commit to to make child care affordable? Trump: Well, I would do that and we're sitting down, you know, I was, somebody, we had Marco Rubio and my daughter, Ivanka… But I think when you talk about the kind of numbers that I'm talking about that because the child care is, child care couldn't, you know, there's something you have to have it in this country, you have to have it... I want to stay with child care… So we'll take care of it. Thank you

So what's the joke? What's funny about bringing a replica firearm into a con space and swinging it around, or as he did at a prior event pointing it at people from a balcony? Please, explain the joke.
Baron/Sofia Embershard@BEmbershard6087

@SocksFur Not even that far right dude was just a joke, and that wasn't a real gun. The only person I see offended here is you tbh. Everyone was just having fun at the con, including Mr Bomb Voyage. Have fun at your block party

@Tincrash Liberty. She’s a dachshund who rides a motorcycle and does search and rescue. Don’t they all do search and rescue though? Anyway, she came along after the Kid stopped caring about paw patrol, so I’m not very familiar.

I approve. The blue wavy lines represent the mighty waterways of Illinois and the Piasa Bird represents whatever it is the Piasa Bird stands for. Have him holding an Italian beef sandwich or a slice of tavern cut pizza and Chicago will get on board.
