@zuhaitz_dev If you could stop world hunger for 1 year for 10-20 billion then that's well within the power of the other ~180 UN members. It won't happen because they want the US to pay for it and, of course, complaining is always easier than actual problem solving.

It is funny when you know this meme is often used for things such as solving world hunger. As a reminder, in the first week of war with Iran, the US has spent over 10 billion dollars, without achieving any strategic goals (goals that don't seem to exist either). With that money, the UN estimates that you could stop acute starvation globally for over a year. Now, we could argue whether or not that's doable, but even if takes double the amount, it seems like a better investment than this war which is taking innocent lives from both sides.

@BlomquistForMI NO, it would then need to go to the senate and get a majority there as well (meaning multiple republican defectors) after that the president can simply veto the bill. Overriding a veto would require basically everyone in both chambers to cooperate - impossible.

For those keeping score at home: if the 4 Dem defectors had voted "Yes", the resolution would have passed 216-215, restricting Trump's illegal and catastrophic war with Iran.

@esrtweet 49% for me, some questions do seem pretty outdated and some questions were compounded by "and" that made the choice a hard pass for me.

I scored 49% on the Burnham Liberal Test (1964) — "Mixed / Moderate." 39 questions from Suicide of the West. Probably to have been expected from a libertarian. Some of the assumptions in Burnham's questions strike me as rather dated. Take it yourself: burnham.millermanschool.com

@TheVixhal So does that mean that if you use a c++ boost::multi precision::mpfr<500> (meaning 500 digits of precision) you could replace a 0.9999... (500 '9' digits) by a 1? And is this applying also to 0.099999...-> 0.1 ?

0.999... (repeating forever) is exactly equal to 1. It is not approximately but precisely the same number. Most people assume there must be some infinitely small gap between 0.999... and 1, but there isn't. One simple way to see it: If x = 0.999... then 10x = 9.999... Subtract: 10x - x = 9.999... - 0.999... So 9x = 9, meaning x = 1. The reason this feels wrong is that our brains want to imagine 0.999... as a process that's approaching 1 but never quite getting there. But it's not a process. It's a completed, infinite decimal, and it lands exactly on 1.

@MarcJBrooker If it just had to be done once, then wc -w no matter the size. If it needs to be done regularly, then get an initial word count and then track changes only.

@prajdabre if i only need the count and dont need to parse the data any further, just wc -w. This would likely be I/O bound anyway.

@3131hue Take the resolution of your screen times 4 bytes per pixel times 2 for the backbuffer and multiple smaller buffers for shaders, verticies, textures and other parts of the GL or VK pipeline. You could software rasterize for flappy bird, but anything more complex needs to pay.

@michaelje @_BigNobody @JosephPolitano What reasons? Nobody has ever died from commercial nuclear plants in the USA and all the waste ever produced in the world would fit in a single football field (97% of that could be recycled too). New EPR-2 and gen 5 reactors physically cannot meltdown. The atom has been tamed.

Official 2025 electricity data is in today, and US power generation rose nearly 3% to a record high last year, driven primarily by an 85TWh increase in both solar & coal Low-carbon sources made up a record 42% of US electricity, with solar alone making up a record 8.6%

@sircalebhammer China builds whole cities all the time that go unused (sometimes pay people to move into them). That's the difference between US subsiding demand + limiting supply and China subsiding supply in a market of low demand.

@WallStreetApes Can we PLEASE stop with these stupid engagement posts! Package labeling and price scales are legally required to be accurate, Calibrated, and tested by a gov agency. If this were real you would be happy to have a slam dunk lawsuit. TickTok + X Slop

Because it’s not as clean as “they miss a payment, I keep the house + the money.” You become the bank: you have to underwrite the buyer, service the loan, handle insurance/taxes/escrow, and if they default you are dealing with a real foreclosure process that can take months, cost real money, and gets messy fast if they file bankruptcy or trash the property. Also, depending on how you structure it, there can be due-on-sale issues, lien priority problems, and tax/reporting headaches. Seller financing can be awesome, but the reason more people don’t do it is the risk and the paperwork, not the math on the interest rate.
