@linzemitchell

I am an educator, instructional designer, and mother. I believe education (whether remote or in-person) should be designed to empower both educator and learner.

Already dreading a mountain of overdue assignments at the end of the term? ⛰️ Find out how @linzemitchell and her students co-designed a late-work policy that increases accountability, accommodates students, *and* boosts morale: edut.to/3XMZHwC

@mme_wagstaff Yes, has all the base elements. Are there errors? Yes, but it is functional and could give a general idea to a reader.

@mme_wagstaff Yep. We grade most assessments as a class. They get quick feedback and it saves time for me. Yes, I check to make sure students marked them correctly. 😉

@MmeCarbonneau I use prompts in TL and 1st lang for practice activities (depending on the topic) and we "work through" the prompts when they are in TL. For an assessment, TL only if it has been practiced repeatedly and on a VERY familiar topic.

#langchat Interpersonal prompt. In TL or 1st lang???? Curious what people do. Novices.

@WLClassroom I tell students my goal is make them 'functional' when we are going over structures. It doesn't need to be perfect, just functional. This ironically releases the pressure and leads to more effective communication!

Another article for @edutopia about a SIMPLE late work policy that boosted morale and established boundaries for me and my students. To paraphrase one of my students "in this class...you see us as people...and we see you too". ☺️ edutopia.org/article/design…

@DiernaMHS Have kids make a movie poster/book cover that summarizes what they read. The give it a catchy title, add captivating images, and a caption. My students made it using Canva and my artists did one on paper.

The students are tired. I’m tired. What are some of your best reading activities for short passages? #langchat

One my favorite presentations that I did for @NHAWLT! A valid one for those who teach language, and for educators in general!😃

@madamednmichael It's just like when you teach reflexive verbs and then soon everything has a 'me/te' in front of it! Even nouns and adjectives! 😆

French teachers will recognize this struggle: We are working hard on the perfect tense (passé composé) in French 3, and now ALL VERBS are being expressed in the perfect tense. Sigh.

@TeachMrReed @DrKerryane This helps the kids who are simply overwhelmed with missing work, but are engaged in the class/content. Is it perfect, no (nothing ever is). But, student feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. (2/2)

@TeachMrReed @DrKerryane I accept late work (full credit) until the assessment on the content (about 2 weeks). After that, a student can achieve partial credit for missing by showing competency on said assessment. (1/2)

Honest question: What lesson are we teaching students if we A) don’t accept late work, and B) Dock their grade points for submitting work late?

@MmeCarbonneau @doriecp That works too!😃 Teaching is an art and often, what we do in our instructional practice varies from year to year (and periods to periods)

@linzemitchell @doriecp Or, I say I am an acquisition driven instructor who uses strategies that work for the students in front of me. Those strategies vary class to class year to year based on the needs of my learners.

@DiegoOjeda66 Honestly, mine is more of a mix of the two. In fact, I have my students help design what they should be able to do in the assessment; but it would be hard to fully explain that process in a tweet.
