vanity metrics have always been the bane of crypto > KOL "influence" measured in followers > botted clipping campaigns to show their "distribution strategy" works > companies wanting "virality" and 100k impressions on every post > agencies chasing numbers to please clients, sending fancy reports but little substance quick dopamine through vanity metrics means nothing if they don't bring you revenue or users

i think i have decent: + organic engagement + follower count (incl SF) + x score but a well-known project told me: - they can’t bring me into their ambassador program - policy-wise, i don’t have enough followers - for them, engagement is secondary this is why some bad actors get all the roles and money with botted followers & engagement anyway i guess i need to hit 20K followers asap (w/o botting)

Last year before Token2049 Dubai, a Japanese crypto company offered free flights and hotels to a bunch of influencers including myself. The only requirement: Have 100k+ followers on X & attend their event. My friend had 60k followers. They rejected him. He then botted his account to 100k overnight. Reapplied. Got accepted. Flight paid. Hotel paid. I watched it all live. Most funny and ridiculous thing ever.
