Texas should close its primaries to protect the integrity of each political party’s nomination process. Political parties are private associations with defined platforms and principles, and their nominees should be chosen by voters who are genuinely committed to those principles. An open primary system allows individuals who do not align with a party’s values to influence its candidate selection, which can dilute party platforms and undermine grassroots voters. Closing the primaries would ensure that Republican nominees are chosen by Republicans and Democratic nominees by Democrats, strengthening party accountability, reducing strategic cross-over voting, and preserving a clearer, more transparent electoral process. Democrats constantly flood the #RepublicanBallot in the primaries. Don’t think so? Just look at how many liberal Democrats flooded this page commenting “I’m Voting Abbott” when Doc Pete Chambers was mentioned. Why do they do this? This is an insurance policy for them should the Democrat candidate not get elected, they have a RINO that will, this endures things won’t be as bad in their minds. Just look at how many RINOs are elected? Not only that but how long some of them stay in office. Open primaries are like letting fans of one football team help choose the starting quarterback for their rival. Even if they don’t plan to sabotage outright, they have every incentive to pick the weakest option to make their own team’s path easier. That’s not competition based on merit — that’s strategic interference. If the people of Texas want secure elections that truly reflect Texans and their vote, the grassroots is going to have to put our foot down on the Legislature and demand they close the primaries!
