Published today in @CircAHA, Considerations of Intraoperative Transesophageal Echocardiography During Adult Cardiac Surgery. Here are three things to know: Although intraoperative transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) is increasingly important in cardiac surgery for monitoring, decision-making, and improving clinical outcomes, current society guidelines have not been updated with the latest evidence on its benefits. Intraoperative TEE use has been shown to improve outcomes and reduce mortality in high-risk cardiac surgery patients, particularly those undergoing coronary artery bypass graft (CABG), valve, and aortic surgeries. Intraoperative TEE use is cost-effective while reducing long-term complications after cardiac surgery and lowering health care costs. ✍🏼 @lisarongmd @shorelslshore @kibelani @bfaloyeMD @EGarciaSayan @timothyDMB @WMillerHance @nicoa002 @RichardSheuMD

It was an incredible experience to be on the writing committee for the 2024 ACC/AHA Perioperative Guidelines, released earlier in September 2024. ahajournals.org/doi/10.1161/CI… Here is a thread featuring major takeaways from the new Perioperative guidelines. (from perspective of a cardiologist) #ACCAHAPerioperativeGuidelines #AHA24 We have a session at #AHA24 on Monday, Nov 18th, 8 am. Please plan to join.
