Lithium Boom

Growth of lithium prices slows today leaving #lithiumstocks vulnerable to Hormuz headwinds and inflation worries.

Congrats @Lithium_ARG @GanfengOfficial on this spectacular ramp up to full production at Cauchari, near Atacama-level costs and positive cash flow generation. Notable too is $LAR's planned #ASX listing, which validates our argument that non-ASX lithium equities trade at steep discounts despite controlling some of the world’s best long-life resources. LAR is about as non-Australian a story as you can find: North American management/team, South American assets, NYSE + TSX already in place, and no historical Australian ties whatsoever. In today’s market, virtually every mining company wants the greater access to US capital markets that LAR already has - yet LAR is going the other direction. Why? IMO because the ASX investor base should better appreciate this story. ASX/Asian investors have positive understanding and history with: - Ganfeng & China-linked lithium supply chains - Minority-interest structures - $IGO.AX’s indirect exposure to Greenbushes is an obvious precedent here. - long-lived Argentina brine production via Orocobre → Allkem → Arcadium → Rio Tinto paying $6.7B/~90% premium. Cauchari-Olaroz is now operating at its full 40,000 tpa capacity with costs at the low end of the global curve — a very strong operational achievement. Meanwhile, the near shovel-ready Pastos Grandes/PPG development asset has long-term aspirations for 150,000 tpa scale, which, as we discussed on Rock Stock Channel last week with ATB Cormark's Mac Whale, Mr. Market is arguably assigning close to zero value to - but strategics may value just this asset at LAR's current market cap of $1.7B IMO, LAR's ASX listing has a good chance of materially narrowing its valuation gap, will provide a positive read-through for ASX-listed @GalanLithium and other Argentina brine developers, and may lead to additional TSX/US-listed producers and developers to follow in their footsteps. Which is why I continue to hold and buy $LAR & $GLN.AX on dips... Not advice. DYOR

Congrats to @Lithium_ARG. The company’s potential is finally being recognized. It was almost a decade ago I introduced them, as LAC at the time, to @GanfengOfficial. The next level of progress will come much faster especially with the current market tailwinds.

As of today, the #lithium carbonate spot price reached $28,595, up 0.6%, up 68% YTD, and up 244% since the Second Great Bottom. This marks the 5th consecutive day of rising prices. Meanwhile, as we approach midday, just a while ago, the m-t Li2CO3 futures was still up 2.8%.

War jitters rocked the market again today, in the face of an incredibly strong #lithium market. The pattern has been algorithms dumping shares very quickly on headlines, sometimes triggering light panic selling. Investors end up buying the dips and the market recovers. Breaking News from China! As of today, May 08, 2026, the #lithium carbonate spot price (in $) climbed to $28,412/ton, up 1.84%. This marks the fourth consecutive day of increasing prices. It also shows an increase of 66% since the beginning of the year, and an increase of 241% since the Second Great Bottom. Meanwhile, as we approach midday, the m-t Li2CO3 futures price is also growing, but at a rather low pace and under relatively high volatility.
