Involuntary treatment has lower success rates than voluntary treatment, Kolla said. “We have very, very strong research that it doesn’t work.” thetyee.ca/News/2024/09/1…

“The bottom line is we cannot force treatment on people. That’s not an effective strategy. We need to actually do the hard work of building a system that provides the care people are actually seeking.” - Dr Paxton Bach, Addictions Physician vancouversun.com/news/bc-ndp-le…

This is the biggest change in direction I have ever seen in provincial drug policy. It has been rushed, put together by a panicked government afraid of losing power with a looming election and a resurgent right that has essentially the same platform. conservativebc.ca/john_rustad_an…

There is lots to be said about this but I'd just like to remind everyone that involuntary care already exists so what is being discussed here is expansion. It is not, as so often implied by conservatives on here, that involuntary care doesn't currently exist.
Robert Buffam@CTVNewsRob

New: Premier Eby announces plans for involuntary care, including opening highly secure facility in Maple Ridge (Monarch Homes) to send people with concurrent mental health & addiction, plus in prisons/jails — 1st site for that is 10 beds at Surrey Pretrial Services Centre.#bcpoli

Heart-breaking images coming out from Jasper. A devastating wildfire has engulfed the town of Jasper. The fire, fuelled by fierce winds, has resulted in a wall of flames reaching 300 to 400 feet high, destroying homes and businesses. This isn't normal. #ActOnClimate

Trying to recall which terror attacks in Canada racialized immigrants were involved in…the Quebec mosque shooting…Toronto van attack..the mowing down of 3 generations of the brown immigrant Afzaal family with a truck…no wait, that can’t be right…
Colin D'Mello | Global News@ColinDMello

Premier Ford added: "Before you plan on moving to Canada, don't come to Canada if you're going to start terrorizing neighborhoods." "If you want to come to Canada, if you want to be a resident of Ontario, you get along with everyone." #onpoli

Nope, the protests have not led to the arrests. The arrests are the result of concerted decisions by administrators across campuses. Nothing natural or inevitable about the arrest of non-violent protestors.

I am concerned by news of the “cleanup” of the #CrabPark encampment in #Vancouver. I urge the @ParkBoard to pause and work in good faith with encampment residents on an approach that upholds their dignity, protects their belongings, and respects their security & human rights. –MJ
