Great time visiting OceanX in Hong Kong this morning. It's like the modern version of La Calypso of Cousteau. From Monday the OceanX will be en route to Shanghai. Ray Dalio’s vision for his ocean exploration boat, the OceanX, is to create a "Starship Enterprise" for the ocean—a technologically advanced platform that combines top-tier deep-sea scientific research with Hollywood-level media production to inspire global understanding and stewardship of the sea. ​Through the nonprofit initiative OceanX, which he co-founded with his son Mark Dalio, the vision involves transforming humanity's relationship with the ocean from one of exploitation to one of mutual benefit and reciprocity. ​"Secret Sauce" (Science + Media): Dalio believes that combining scientific discovery with high-end storytelling is essential to make marine biology accessible and inspiring to the public. Deep-Sea Exploration: The vessel, which is a 285-foot former oil vessel converted into a world-leading research ship, is designed to go where few have gone before. It carries submersibles that can descend to 1,000 meters and remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) that can reach 6,000 meters, allowing it to explore 98% of the world's oceans. Inspiring the Next Generation: Similar to how Jacques Cousteau inspired him, Dalio hopes to educate and inspire a new generation of oceanographers and storytellers.
