@DavidKochis2 @JoshBogorad He's an incredible talent, don't get me wrong. But crippling the ceiling of the team in place is exactly what Jim Nill has avoided the last few years. I think a Hughes move might extend the window, but the next couple of years wouldn't have been as good talent-wise.

@lmJosh09 @JoshBogorad You are right about the cap and draft assets, but would have tried to make that trade. Minnesota gave up 3 players (1 known + 2 w/potential) and a 1st. Hughes is Makar-level good IMO.

This is a list of key, lineup regulars and how many games they missed this season. 11 different guys, out 261 combined games. The Stars finished with 112 points - tied for their 3rd best season ever. An incredible job by Glen Gulutzan, his staff, and the entire Stars team.

@DavidKochis2 @JoshBogorad I don't think it's unrealistic to say that if the ask to the Stars was 3 NHLers and a first, the Stars would probably be a much less deep team with less legitimate opportunity for a cup this year. We have a couple more top heavy contracts on the books than they do, too.

@DavidKochis2 @JoshBogorad We didn't have the assets to acquire Quinn Hughes without severely impacting our cup window (or the cap space). The rentals over the last few years severely depleted our draft capital, so you'd be giving up someone like Robertson, Johnston, etc. to make that move.

@yeahrobrules @JoshBogorad If nothing else, they should be cheering his hair, because we definitely have the coach with the best hair in the league (but also because he’s proven that he’s a hell of a coach, even with a depleted lineup)

This roster of 20 players has an exact cap hit of $104M. Robertson at 8x$12.5M ($100M deal) Bourque at 1x$2.74M Lundkvist at 1x$2M Benn at 1x$850k Bäck & Blackwell upped to $850k, too. Faksa and Lyubushkin are gonzo. 💸 Zero dollars cap space. Not even a penny. #TexasHockey

@Claraxbart0n @JuroKral Well, duh on the additional money. The reason it would matter is because it frees up a forward slot in the lineup and that $850,000 that would have gone towards Benn’s salary for the year. So it does matter, in that regard if they want to bring Radek back.

@lmJosh09 @JuroKral It doesn’t matter if Benn retires- the additional $500-1million would still be owed. And I don’t know why Faksa would walk away from a guaranteed contract

@JuroKral @Claraxbart0n I personally think if the Stars win the cup, Benn calls it a career. At this point in Faksa’s career, I’m not so sure he doesn’t do the same or comes back for $850k. This is solid work though, and I don’t think it’s far off of where they land.

@Claraxbart0n If they win a Cup, I believe it's another 1M. 500k for the Cup Final and another 500k for the Cup win.

@lmJosh09 @LassStats @NHL @DallasStars i won’t argue landy’s underlying stats lol — but we’re 36-4-7 w/ him and 8-9-3 w/o, which isn’t nothing not denying your injuries, but our D prevented all but a wild rebound, so atp it just becomes hypothetical 🤷 tbh i’m annoyed 3/4 games have gone to SO and not a real finish

@TaylorHenry9 I mean, that’s a fair assessment. I don’t watch the Avs but maybe 10 times a year. Leadership definitely makes a difference and stats don’t tell that story. These are clearly the best 2 teams in the league, full stop.

@lmJosh09 I think you VASTLY underestimate what Landy brings to the Avs. Go look at their record when he plays, compared to when he doesn’t lol

Avs are better than Dallas. It’s gonna come down to whether Otter turns into prime Hasek all series or not.

@TaylorHenry9 Also just want to leave this here. While being outshot, similar # of high danger chances and lower xG for the Avs tonight, which is the way that the Stars defensive structure is designed.

@lmJosh09 Avs are without Landy, Lehky and Logan O’Conner. Avs are the better team. It’s gonna come down to Otter.

@tradedforpicks @LassStats @NHL @DallasStars I’ll give you Lehkonen… Landy’s numbers now aren’t Landy from 5-6 years ago. He’s a good player, but you’re talking about the #1 point scorer for the Stars completely absent from this game and our top line center not out there. Not to mention our #1 PK forward.
