Johnny Cash, former Director of Seasonal Engagement at Epic, recently announced his layoff 💔 He was responsible for working on the #Fortnite Battle Pass system, Quests, Crew, and even mini passes such as 2022’s Dragon Ball Z and Most Wanted.

Principal Engineer - Laid Off Narrative Director - Laid Off Lead Writer - Laid Off Character Art Director - Laid Off Design Director - Laid Off Social Media Admin - Laid Off Seasonal Engagement Director - Laid Off Lead Concept Artist - Laid Off Senior Concept Artist - Laid Off Sr. Tournament Operations Manager - Laid Off Creator Marketing Director - Laid Off Senior Game Producer - Laid Off And SO SO SO much more integral Epic Employees were laid off. Yet somehow Tim Sweeney has the audacity to say that Epic's vision is now clear and that now they need to "build awesome Fortnite experiences with fresh seasonal content, gameplay, story, and live events." Is that not what was already being done? You literally GOT RID of almost all the people who were doing exactly that and getting this game back on track??? Epic's entire HR has to go too. Unbelievably incompetent people. I really don't know how some people can just see all of this and still think there is a way of recovery for this game without all these integral people working at Epic anymore. I don't want to doompost and say it's the end of Fortnite, but things are just looking so awful.

@FitzyLeakz They fired the narrative director, among others involved with it, the story will 100% be affected. I don't think it'll be immediate though, it'll probably take until towards the end of this season, or sometime next season, before we start feeling the impact.

@twer516065 I think we're gonna see a repeat of what happened in 2022-2023. The story will seem fine for a while, but then it's gonna progressively fall apart again.

@zureska I suppose we're pretty much going through chapter 3 again, and next chapter will be like chapter 4 (assuming everything is at least held together throughout the rest of ch7)

@twer516065 I'm just wondering if they WILL replace him, or if we're on our way to something akin to chapter 4's storytelling

I am honestly just at a loss of words. Today has been absolutely horrible for our community, but even more so for the Epic Employees. My heart goes out to all of them, they really do not deserve this. This is the second time Tim Sweeney has done this. The future of Fortnite is uncertain, the future of the story is uncertain, 1000 more employees lost their jobs. He is actively destroying this game. Multiple KEY INTEGRAL and TALENTED people from Epic who were the reason why the future looked so bright were laid off today. We are not even a week into Season 2, which was said to be one of the greatest seasons of all time, things were looking absolutely amazing, and in one day it's all fallen apart before our very eyes. My final message for today is just continue supporting the employees as much as you can and demand Sweeney's resignation. If Tim doesn't resign, this pattern will continue to repeat. Once was enough, a second time (which just happened) is absolutely outrageous. We need to do something as a community otherwise I don't think there will be a good future for this game.

@theragingreaper I think we'll start seeing the effects of this, by mid-season 3, but I don't think it'll get REALLY bad until later. Idk, so worried

@theragingreaper I think we really need some other big game to come out, that pretty much forces Epic to fix the game. SUPER concerned about the future. With so many people gone, I don't know how we're gonna come back from this. It feels like history is repeating itself...

Rough day. Thanks for all the kind thoughts and mentions. I want to say that since my arrival on the Fortnite team, the game’s story community has been nothing but stellar towards me. You all made me feel very welcome. It was fun being part of an amazing team of storytellers.

@theragingreaper Kinda like what happened the story in chapter 3: It seemed like everything was fine, and then it started just going downhill.

@theragingreaper I was SO optimistic about the game's future, for the story in particular. I'm really worried now about the game as a whole.
