My perspective is Apple spent three years working on a UI and shouldn’t throw it away over a week of Twitter posts. (Not that the UI is perfect). That’s how we ended up with an iPhone mini that nobody who said Apple should make one actually bought or would recommend.

We’ve already presented this demo at ICCV 2023, CVPR 2024, and next month, we’ll showcase it again at ECCV in Milan, along with our paper on the topic. Big thanks to my co-author, @gabriberton who showed that synthetic images can replace real images for the task of VPR.

The MeshVPR demo is now available on GitHub. This tool uses @UnrealEngine & @CesiumJS to generate image datasets from large scale 3D meshes, which can be used to geolocate images in any major city worldwide.

@flassari "Instances of ISM/HISM are not individually culled" I believe this used to be the case, but with GPU culling added a while back, it is definitely no longer true.

Hey UE #gamedev community, I need your help! I want to do myth-busting on common "best practices" in Unreal Engine. You've heard them, like "avoid ticks", "GetAllActorsOfClass is slow", etc. Looking for both true and false ones. What UE "best practices" have you got? 😀 #uetips

@Sharundaar Recently i’ve been using d2 for pretty much any visualization. If you are fine using text instead of a UI. d2lang.com

I've used Obsidian + Advanced Canvas plugin today to map out what's manipulating the mapping context on my current project, it wasn't an optimized experience but still relatively pleasant. Any good software or plugins to make that kind of graphs ?

@OutoftheboxP @JohnDraisey I think you will have to disable unity build and precompiled headers to get more fine grained information about the headers.

@JohnDraisey I am super curios to see what is the most included header file in Unreal. I was expecting to see something like "CoreMinimal.h" - included 999999 times.

@_benui Have used it for years now. What i love about is the simplicity, personally i am overwhelmed with the many features of other note taking apps. Obsidian let’s me focus on my ideas and notes.

@lolleko_ Yeah, that initializer is amazing. It's such a shame it's only available starting c++20.

Do you use { list_initialization } in your Unreal Engine codebase? I personally have mixed feelings about it. It's a great tool that saves a lot of time but I always fear someone will change the order of variables without triggering a compilation error.

@OutoftheboxP I think statements is a better metric than lines. I would say no more than 25 but lower is obviously better. But this also depends on the code if you have 3 nested loops in 10 lines that will be hard two read regardless of the small size.
