@dawn__oh Someone made a post that said “Oh my god stop calling it collusion when I collude, it isn’t collusion!!”. I pointed out nicely that even though it’s accepted in mtg it IS collusion and does effect people and a bunch of people got wildly defensive about it

@dawn__oh I’ve played 4 in the last four years, I won three of them and lost in the finals of the fourth, I went to regionals once because magic Is a low ROI activity these days. The last pro tour I went to was 6 years ago, my first pt qualification was 23 years ago lol

@ChefGreginald @wildstwawberry But you didn’t try vs your friend did you? So the chance that you got mana screwed vs your friend or the matchup didn’t play well didn’t happen did it? Where if I’d played your friend those things might’ve mattered; you see?

@loosepassive @wildstwawberry Yep and I would've tried the *exact same* amount and beat him exactly the same even if I wasn't in it for my friend. What don't you get? He doesn't magically get a better chance at winning if I'm not helping my friend. He still has to get through me just the same

@ChefGreginald @wildstwawberry Finals because you defeated him 65-64 in the semis because you tried in the semis and he never got a chance to face your friend

@ChefGreginald @wildstwawberry Yes, it is, imagine you were the best figure skater in the world and your friend is the third best and in the Olympics you get into a h2h and you throw it so your friend wins and you score a 62 on purpose and your friend scores a 64 but another guy scores 67 but he wasn’t in the

@ChefGreginald @wildstwawberry So then when you and a friend get paired you play a completely fair game of magic where the best player who plays the best wins right? That’s fair and doesn’t hurt anyone.

@ChefGreginald @wildstwawberry Your entire argument here is “If you can tip the scales in favor of your friends you should do it, who cares about everyone else”. Mine is “things should be fair to everyone”

@ChefGreginald @wildstwawberry You think people should act in yhe interest of them and their friends at the detriment of others, I don’t? Doesn’t seem hard to see? In a game about playing a card game and seeing who is better you think tipping the scales via unethical means is preferable as long as you benefit?

@ChefGreginald @wildstwawberry Okay, then our argument is solved, you think the person with the most friends should win magic tournaments and I don’t. I also don’t think the board of directors should deny people coverage for money and you do, difference of opinion

@ChefGreginald @GayOliveGarden @wildstwawberry What I don’t think you realize is you are hyper conservative. I’m guessing if someone asked you you’d say you aren’t but apply your thoughts here to anywhere else in the world and see which side you end up on

@ChefGreginald @GayOliveGarden @wildstwawberry I always have the same odds of making the top 8, assuming we are all equal skill, but your odds of making the top 8 have improved in some pairings (in reality it doesn’t really work out like this because it isn’t always 50/50), that means you are gaining an advantage from this

@wildstwawberry @ChefGreginald You go to your first PT and you spend 500 hours learning your deck and you get there and every match you have to play a grueling mirror but the guy who ends up winning got 19 scoops because he has more friends than you is the world you want to exist? That’s ideal?

@wildstwawberry @ChefGreginald Do you think that’s correct? Is that the world you want to live in? Should the winner of every magic tournament be tha person with the most friends?

@GayOliveGarden @ChefGreginald @wildstwawberry My god, this set of pairings was not the only possible set of pairings, there are other sets and all possible sets of parings must be considered. Are all of you people incapable of seeing how that works mathematically?

@wildstwawberry @ChefGreginald He’s better than you at his deck, but since he didn’t bring friends to scoop to him he deserves to lose? Because magic is about how many friends you have, not who is playing the better deck and playing it best?

@wildstwawberry @ChefGreginald Reread these sets of post, and look at the tones and opinions expressed and see if the side you are taking is where you want to end up. I take my little brother to your local RCQ for his first tourney and you and the boys laughscooop him out of top 8 when all he did was play fair

@GayOliveGarden @ChefGreginald @wildstwawberry I feel like I’m in a mirror universe that there could be a person in the world who would think this doesn’t give you a mathematical advantage, it’s like a black mirror episode. Ping any mathematician in the world lmao

@ChefGreginald @wildstwawberry You clearly are, and any time you want to play 1k money drafts you let me know. I can’t explain to you how mathematically illiterate you are to anyone who reads this post and has taken 8th grade math. If you think those stats are impressive, dunno what to tell you

@loosepassive @wildstwawberry Whether I conceded to my friend or not does not hurt your odds of top 8ing. idk how that's not obvious, especially to someone who claims to be good at math
