The importance of selling narratives and how they affect your NFT bags. A thread.

A long-form reflections on the last few days, a post-mortem, if you will. • Personal attacks at people who work at the Solana Foundation are unfair, and mostly noise but there is a signal underneath them, and, it isn't just "oh no the price is down." • Writing off these attacks as frustration with "coin price down" is not healthy for anyone — piss off power users and you'll create powerful enemies (the only people still here are power users). • There are fundamental comms problems within the ecosystem, and, this isn't just limited to the Foundation — the community has responsibility here as well. • This is a decentralized ecosystem, the frustration doesn't, and can't, rest at one organization's foot. It is our responsibility. • There are very talented and driven people working on this from both sides, but, it takes a lot of time and relationship building. Try to have patience. • The Solana Foundation can't, legally, ethically, or morally, be in a centralized leadership position. Yes, we're a young ecosystem who needs central leaders/voices, but, those leaders can't be the entity who was born with the chain — for all of our sakes. • It is a very tricky needle to thread: How do they provide support for an ecosystem without adding fuel to the SEC's fire? I don't know the answer here. • People like @Austin_Federa, @MetaPsilo, @__arielle__, @voteforpedrito, are working their asses off trying to thread the impossible needle here. They're to be commended, taught, and learned from. • It is clear that Solana as a whole (both the overall community and foundation) has been lackluster in empowering vocal, present, integrous, and effective leaders. • I've met more hyper intelligent, integrous, empathetic people in this ecosystem than I've ever did prior in my 24 years of life. • These people would be extremely effective leaders, but, the siloed/competitive nature of the ecosystem seems to keep people from rallying behind them in a meaningful way. • The NFT ecosystem is insanely tribalistic and many are constantly at each others throats — tearing one another down because we don't like each others' jpegs, We miss the forest for the trees in a huge, damaging way. I've done this, we've all done this. • Ecosystem teams are virtually unable to raise now and are hurting hugely — it is clear that many of them don't feel supported, and it is, generally, very unclear how they might get the support they need. • The ecosystem is looking for a leader in an entity that fundamentally can't be one. This means we need those of you who see yourselves as potential leaders to step up and do the work. • Solana's response to the SEC Wells Notice was lackluster — though the reason may be legally justified, the statements were miles away from Brian Armstrong's signal of strength. Though, I understand why it might have to be so, even though I'm not a lawyer. • The community's response was lackluster too. Ecosystem teams & individuals don't want to hear that they have responsibility to our little network state. Individuals would rather tweet than do the meaningful work. Lawyers/legal experts didn't provide effective opinions. • Everybody is tired, I'm tired — and I don't often get tired. Give people empathy, be generous, send people who might need it a few SOL or a cool jpeg. ———————————————————————— TLDR: As @ASHAWONN said: Leadership matters. More than anything else right now. We're lacking. The Solana Foundation is filled with good, driven, empathetic intelligent people who are stuck between a rock and a hard place. Be kind. We need more social leaders, entities, and initiatives that are not the Foundation or Labs. Foundation/Labs needs to figure out how to effectively empower these leaders. The community needs to figure out who these leader/entities are and unite behind them — stop fighting over your jpegs for a few months. ———————————————————————— These are just off-the-cuff honest reflections. They aren't all full-formulated ideas so don't take them as such — just thinking out loud here. Not intended to piss anyone off, but, open conversations like this are super important to having a healthy, productive, and prosperous community.
