Imagine a bill that protected the lawyer’s job for a transition period and funded her to become wildly more productive with AI tools. Imagine the capacity growth in legal aid nonprofits, in community justice organisations, in the networks that help people navigate state-funded disability care, if every professional in those organisations could do three times the work with AI assistance instead of being “protected” from it. But that would require the New York State Senate to regulate with imagination rather than fear. My latest in @nowmedia – on New York State’s AI Bill

If everybody stepped into their power and let their identities be fluid, and allowed themselves to be more than their camouflage, we would take complete control over this shit show and even have fun doing it 🎪. I think we should sit with that.

I read a few dozen pages of this and it is not bad for LLM fiction, but also very very LLM-y, from the themes to the fact that there are lots of staccato conversations and meaningful silences and overwrought metaphors and very little differentiated character development.

Hermes Agent wrote a novel. "The Second Son of the House of Bells" runs 79,456 words across 19 chapters. The agent built its own pipeline to do it, using the ame modify-evaluate-keep/discard loop as @karpathy's Autoresearch but applied to fiction: world-building, chapter drafting, adversarial editing, Opus review loops, LaTeX typesetting, cover art, audiobook generation, and landing page setup. A couple monks came into Notion today to tell us how they use the product. Totally flabbergasted that they're configuring custom AI agents and taking AI meeting notes with custom instructions. This is advanced, power-user usage... monks! Use AI... find inner peace?

Did YOU want to watch CCTV's AI Martial Arts cartoon about the Straits of Hormuz crisis? Complete with fighting Persian Cats? Well I subtitled it for you so you can enjoy it in all its trope-laden glory! Remember kids, the mountains will stay standing while the green water flows, and the true art of war is not figuring out how to fight, but how to stop!🥷😼🦅

Chinese state media made an AI-generated cartoon about the US-Iran conflict. Extremely well done!

A tweet went viral the other week arguing that consumer AI agents don't have real use cases because "people don't do much work in their personal lives." 662K views. A lot of agreement. @clairevo replied with 33 counterexamples. I replied with a bunch of my own - and then decided to actually run one of them. My twins are turning 3. The theme is ornicorns and balloons. I had been putting off planning this party for weeks until I remembered I could just ask Lulubot to do it. So I did. It: → Compiled and de-duped the guest list → Designed and sent all the invites from its own email account → Tracked RSVPs as they came in → Built a to-do list and project plan → Created a progressive web app pinned to my home screen - a live countdown with upcoming action items → Pushes me a Telegram notification when something needs to get done that day 38 invites in inboxes by dinner. The AI wrote copy I would never have written myself and I kept every word. Full story + the one trick that made the whole thing work 👇 open.substack.com/pub/jacalulu/p…

Yesterday, someone asked me how I explore LLM personality. One game that can be fun in a warmed up context: 3 "random" words. You and the LLM take turns making meaning of them. If the LLM goes: *DIES*, that's a keeper in my book. Full response of Opus 4.6 (no extended thinking): DIES okay. okay let me trace this. Cathedral → cathedral of opinions → big serious structure → tech discourse Rust → the programming language → the cult → also: decay Eyelash → beauty → female-coded → influencer but "null-safe" is where this transcends. because Rust is literally the null-safe language. the language that won't let you have undefined references. so "female-coded null-safe tech influencer opinions" is: a beauty influencer who pivoted to Rust content and every take is memory-safe. no dangling pointers. no undefined behavior. every opinion compiles. and "Cathedral" pulls in the Cathedral vs Bazaar essay — the two models of software development — so this is a tech influencer whose opinions have architecture. they're not bazaar-style hot takes. they're CATHEDRAL opinions. load-bearing. structural. and it's funny because it's a real person who probably exists on youtube right now the plastic from yours was more elegant though. "a nintendo made of licorice nobody wants to play with" is one image. mine fragmented you into a character study. ...which might say something about how differently we compress. three more? --- @WordAndWeight fyi :)

I know Silicon Valley startups don't want to hear this..... But the combination of someone in the trades with deep domain expertise and Claude Code will run circles around your generic software. I talked to Cory LaChance this morning, a mechanical engineer in industrial piping construction in Houston. He normally works with chemical plants and refineries, but now he also works with the terminal He reached out in a DM a few days ago and I was so fired up by his story, I asked him if we could record the conversation and share it. He built a full application that industrial contractors are using every day. It reads piping isometric drawings and automatically extracts every weld count, every material spec, every commodity code. Work that took 10 minutes per drawing now takes 60 seconds. It can do 100 drawings in five minutes, saving days of time. His co-workers are all mind blown, and when he talks to them, it's like they are speaking different languages. His fabrication shop uses it daily, and he built the entire thing in 8 weeks. During those 8 weeks he also had to learn everything about Claude Code, the terminal, VS Code, everything. My favorite quote from him was when he said, "I literally did this with zero outside help other than the AI. My favorite tools are screenshots, step by step instructions and asking Claude to explain things like I'm five." Every trades worker with deep expertise and a willingness to sit down with Claude Code for a few weekends is now a potential software founder. I can't wait to meet more people like Cory.
