@PaddyShanks Both used "Ireland" until 1954 when FIFA decreed "Northern" and "Republic of" should be used. The IFA were allowed to use "Ireland" for the British Championship which they did up to 1978 v Scotland. Prior to 1936 the FAI had used "Irish Free State"

I notice Northern Ireland team were know colloquially as Ireland back in those days.
