@MarkLundeberg @IanCutress Very cool. Are there any fabs going up in the west that are handling these old nodes? I've read that China is the only country fully integrated top to bottom on all nodes 45nm and older.

A reminder that 90%+ of all fab litho equipment that has ever been made is still being used. ASML claims 95%. For other tooling it's probably around 80-90% too - I regularly get emails from a GF equipment reseller and they seem to cycle through tools.

@MarkLundeberg @IanCutress Any proof of this? I was told during the chip shortage that the reason there was a shortage was that the chips needed old node equipment, those fabs were at capacity and no one wanted to spend the dough on machines for old tech knowing that they would write it off in a few years

@IanCutress Not only is the equipment from the 90s (180nm-350nm process nodes) still being used, it is in such demand that equipment makers are starting to manufacture new machines. It's a mature node, it just works, less complications.

@sihir_sains Want to warn you guys: they do this sketchy thing where if you dont register within a certain time, you dont get the extended warranty, It was also a pain to get my luggage replaced after the front zipper broke only after two trips. Its an ok luggage but man was it expensive.

@ITSNEWNAMEDUDE @CatboyRocketry @AeroBigMike To be fair, no one is forcing these people to work at a space company. The point is that in the US the opportunity is there to invent the future. Doing anything great requires sacrifice. You have to decide for yourself what is important to you.

Everyone is now figuring out what Lina Khan wrote a few years ago - US AI models are inefficient versus Chinese ones. They couch it in token costs but this was obvious.

@CarolinaLion2 I’m wondering what Trump’s plan is to avoid the fallout. Throw Hegseth under the bus? Is he just hoping everyone forgets the nuclear weapons that he used as a pretext?

Timing is everything. There were people struggling to make ends meet at the time. The "essential" workers would work 14 hour days until their hands bled. Then you see what your admin team does in the office all day, and it shatters an illusion that you once held. That they were useful, or their job couldn't be done better, even with a 50% reduction in their department.

@dunne_insights Yeah but there are 100 chinese car companies currently trying to survive in a jungle right now. One of them may compete on price out of desperation. China currently has way too much over production of electric vehicles. Those local chinese provinces WILL NOT let those jobs die.

Don’t count on Chinese carmakers to bring affordable cars to America. Won’t happen beyond the superficial. Instead they will pursue the $50k plus range to capture profits as soon as possible.

@phondeel_mbalz @Motor1com Most of their cars are prices lower than German cars, have materials and design that are elegant Japanese and have the reliability, insurance, and repair cost of a Toyota. You can keep your POS German cars.

x.com/wideawake_medi… He arrives at the door expecting submission, armed with nothing but the lingering ghost of state power and a clipboard to hold. But the spell is broken. The fear he was promised he could rely on has evaporated, leaving him exposed, not as an enforcer, but as a sad, overweight man who is now just a nuisance on someone's doorstep.

@tvrloverr @jackfriks why? how many mcdonalds built in this style will close anytime soon? Every mcdonalds i've ever seen has been in the same spot for decades. You sacrifice the present for some unknown gain long into the future?

@jackfriks it makes sense for McDonald's to look like this because the building can be used for other things in the future
