What exactly is the point of this party? Whenever any actual reform is proposed - let's not bankrupt the country with the triple lock, let's build a few houses - they say no. I live in the countryside. It's very nice. It is also very big, and a small 2 bed cottage (offer accepted, yay) costs £400,000. I don't see a problem with walking 15 miles through fields and coming upon some new houses. This has been the normal experience for most of history. The countryside will still be beautiful even if we allow a population greater than 5 boomers per 10km². Here is my extremely controversial counter-proposal: if you own the land, you do what you like with it. Sod the "green belt," which is designed mainly to strangle the cities, and which is largely composed of ugly pointless shrubs. The government has no business on private land, and nor do your neighbours (especially when they live over the horizon, as is often the case where I live). You can do this AND restrict immigration. Restricting immigration is probably a very good idea, but it will not solve many of the problems attributed to it.
