If you're in the indie gamedev space, check out my #pixelart asset pack on itch for free RPG icons. Let me know if you use them in your game :D

@SynthPotato Dude gaming is a fckn waste of time nobody has 12 hours to put into 1 game Ill just finish new releases quicker than anyone by experiencing the story, whats the point on taking 12 hours to find out the story if i could just do it in an hour for free?

Seeing a lot of discussion about this, Gaming is an interactive medium. When you remove the interaction part, you are missing out on a critical part of the experience. It's OK to enjoy stories by watching vids but I really think you need to play to appreciate games fully imo.

My friend is getting into Resident Evil and she hasn’t played a single one of them, she ended up just watching them on YouTube instead… Is there something wrong with this franchise? why do new fans refuse to play them…

@jackcrawford__ >Ill just finish new releases quicker than anyone ...Yeah because what I want from my entertainment the most is for it to end faster. That's what we want right, for the fun to be over sooner. I did not know it was possible to have fun wrong, but they found a way.

@GalacticAhab @gigabibich @browndwarf6 ...the bed of chaos comment stirred up some unpleasant memories huh. You don't want to play them, then don't, but there are ways in which games being open world can be uniquely to their benefit, just cause we're in a period of slop where they don't, doesn't make that wrong.

@GalacticAhab @gigabibich @browndwarf6 bud, I get the runback to bed of chaos instills in you an aversion to long distances but this is a dumb ass argument. The master key letting you access different areas doesn't make it elden ring, nor should every game be souls.

@GalacticAhab @gigabibich @browndwarf6 it's a quest resolution(and far from the main one) available because the world is structured like an actual world instead of a zone. You're not doing this in dark souls, as open as it is, you're not parkouring past iron golem to get to anor londo, that just ain't happening.

@GalacticAhab @gigabibich @browndwarf6 I gave the same example before, Gothic 2 has a quest where one of the resolutions is to go around city walls, jump into the sea, and come in through the port, skipping . This is only an option because it's an open world, you don't get the same effect if everything's in one area

@GalacticAhab @gigabibich @browndwarf6 There are games where exploring the open world gives you extra options for resolving the quest. Witcher 3 does this, Gothic 2 did this, Morrowing(to a tiny degree, mostly you could pull rank) did this etc.

@browndwarf6 Ye ye, I get you, but they still have to actually fill in space with cool environments and whatnot, since there are games(especially in the indie sphere) that will just have actually empty(or copy pasted) space out of desire for a big world, which misses the point.

@lovelytoaster I exaggerated for dramatic effect but I do think open world can be good without "stuff" in it and by stuff I mean things like side quests enemies etc. stuff that is usually considered content in games

@browndwarf6 OK, I wouldn't go that far lol, there's a difference between 'the world is vast so it feels empty between activities', and 'the world is empty because there's no stuff in it'

my hot take is if you want to create a game somewhat focused on open world then the emptier the better, you should enjoy the world itself not just the side activities scattered across it
