@mattgurney Federal governments aren't where the rubber hits the road with our cities, and when we conflate "cities" with "Canada" it skirts the real issues we've created. Would love to hear & read more reflection on this in The Line, it seems like something you and Jen are passionate about.

@mattgurney I worry that when we talk about "the state of Canadian cities" we leave out the fact that cities are creatures of the provinces, and city councils are where many of the decisions get made. Maybe The Line's listernership just knows this inherently.

Recent Canadian byelections have cost Canadians about $20 per registered elector. Which means that Poilievre's upcoming vanity run in Battle River - Crowfoot will cost Canadians a little under $1.7 million dollars. So my question is this: is Pierre worth the cost? #cdnpoli

@vcalla2021 You're a bright up-and-comer who's likely to have a political future in Barrhaven & Nepean more broadly. Misrepresenting things like this is the Lisa MacLeod path. She did not represent this community well. I strongly encourage you to check this instinct now.

@vcalla2021 Those concerns are not why the project is cancelled, per the article. Demand for transitional housing is down and supply is increasing. Baseless speculation about the character of newcomers in those shelters does not warrant an apology.

@AlexLewisNepean @OntarioPCParty Allowing private clinics to charge for healthcare doesn't put money back in our pockets. Almost $700M of public money for Therme doesn't either. $225M spent breaking the Beer Store contract early doesn't put money in our pockets. PCs are terrible for Ontario's pocketbook, Alex.

Doug Ford is one of a growing number of kleptocrats and it's embarrassing that Ontario cannot mount even a modest political defence against him. #onpoli

Congrats @dbrand - it's the ugliest thing you've ever made 😭 (but also kinda sick because the Vision Pro is still functional with the protective case on since there are cutouts over all the sensors and cameras) dbrand.com/aperture

@nile_maxted @DaveBlass I think this happens often. People return to media with their expectations reset, and see it for what it *is* rather than what they *expected* it to be on first viewing. I look forward to the reappraisal of Discovery in 5-10 years when it gets that fair shake.

@DaveBlass I recently re-watchedand I ❤️this season and season 1. I thibk (and alot of trek suffers from this now) expectations are so high. Returning to them allows for more appreciation (although I did the first time-but expectations gone as you now know what's going 2 happ)

Towards the end of Season 2 of Star Trek Picard, Jean Luc must confront his childhood trauma and return to the wine cellar under Chateau Picard. The tunnels were used during WWII by the resistance, and would be used again to resist a new group of villains. Great work by @igorknezevic

@DaveBlass @igorknezevic I think this is really interesting and would have looked really cool on camera, but you're right, it is a little too far removed from what we'd seen before. Good call.

Early explorations by @igorknezevic of a USS Stargazer Transporter Room. We wanted to update the classic design but I wasn't sure how far. This was a great process working with Igor but I eventually felt it should lean heavier on the TNG/Voyager aesthetic. I think this totally would have worked amazing, but I think we went with the right choice.

@policything @DevineSean @MacLeodLisa Absolutely religious law, esp. Sharia, is incompativle with western society. Sure, fine, yes. Except that's not what she said, Clarke. She pointed at a Muslim member of the community - of her own party, even - and said some racist shit. That's vile behaviour.

@DevineSean Before taking any opinion on any candidate to replace @MacLeodLisa I do think it's easy and straightforward to say Sharia Law is incompatible with western society. The vast majority of Nepean residents know it and can freely say it, but I bet you can't Sean.

While you still represent your constituents (including me), I would have hoped you would want to represent them better than this. I hope the people who wrote effusive columns when you announced your retrirement are reevaluating their words.

@MacLeodLisa Your guy sat down with a notorious huxster and fraud who agrees with him on everything for an hour. That's not valour and transparency, that's propaganda.

@CdnCleanGrowth The CPC couldn't even vote to even recognize anthropogenic climate change as a real thing. The lowest possible bar on climate, set by their own delegates, and they couldn't even clear it.

I really hope this post ends up being a boost for Nate Erskine-Smith in the future, and not a hinderance. He's one of the few political figures who gives me genuine hope right now.

I try and keep things fairly wholesome here, so understand my seriousness when I say: You and your entire political movement can get fucked. Fuck off. Christ, someone please give us back Conservatives who love this country.

Dear Canadians! Be honest! If the rumour is true that Trump would offer natural born Canadians immediate citizenship to the US and a trade of Canadian with US dollars at a one-to-one basis… Would you do it?

@mattgurney @gaudall Wish there'd been outcomes to various investigations into the Ford PCs prior to the last provincial election, too. It pretty regularly feels like we're ragging the puck on cases in the public interest.

@mattgurney @gaudall I agree, but I would still rather Canadians have more information than less prior to the next election. Will there be a smoking gun? Will it make a difference, electorally, either way? Maybe not. Still would be more comfortable with going to the polls with that in hand.

Rob is my local MP. He's a pretty good MP. He's popular in the community. But he's also showing the critical Trudeua-era Liberal pathology here: why do a thing when you can instead have symbolic process about the thing? That counts as action, right? Rob: just do it. Enough.
Rob Oliphant@Rob_Oliphant

I have asked for an urgent meeting of the Don Valley West Federal Liberal Association Executive this evening. Before I take a public stand on our Party's leadership question, I need their thoughts, wisdom, and advice. What's best for Canada comes first & our Party comes second.
