I've always found this little tip of Connecticut reaching towards New York City to be very low aura. Geographic equivalent of horribly failing the green line test

Soon, all software engineering will be automated. We know this bc the humans involved have been working harder and spending more money on it than they ever have been. And the software is better than ever! Utopia is right around the corner :)

From the provided writeup seems like it was an "OS Sandbox" aka kernel namespaces, pivot root, etc. This is a "sandbox" in the same way the docker container running on your laptop is a sandbox.

Never had someone thank me for biking in their town. Seems like tourism was a bright spot for this old logging town, and now it's basically gone. If you're in the area, I've heard the local pizza joint is great Park still accessible via backcountry trail. 50 mins from Seattle.

A woman approached me after the ride to thank me for visiting. She explained community has hurting since the closure of the Fairfax Bridge, which the state deemed unsuitable for traffic in 24 after decades of neglect. This is the only route from inside the town to Mt Rainier NP

makes for a high concentration of what I imagine is the pretty rare "full speed rear end into a shutoff parked car on a main city throughway" event

more than the total number of coal miners in the entire US btw

Oracle is confirmed cutting 20,000-30,000 jobs but sources inside are saying the real number is closer to 45,000 I'm hearing this isn't just about AI data center costs Word is they've been running pilot programs with AI agents doing database administration work for 8 months One source told me a team of 47 DBAs in Austin got replaced by 3 senior architects plus automated Oracle Cloud Infrastructure management The agents are handling routine maintenance, performance tuning, backup verification - stuff that used to require armies of L4 and L5 engineers Internal metrics show the AI systems are catching 94% of database issues before human intervention needed But here's the terrifying part: they're not just cutting the obvious roles I'm hearing entire solution engineering teams are getting eliminated - the people who customize implementations for enterprise clients Apparently the new AI workflow can generate custom database schemas and migration plans in 6 hours instead of 6 weeks One insider said they watched a 12-person team that handled Fortune 500 implementations get told their roles were "redundant effective immediately" The severance packages are allegedly massive - 18 months salary plus equity vesting acceleration But that's because Oracle knows these people can't find equivalent work anywhere Every other enterprise software company is running the same playbook One source said it best: "We're not getting laid off, we're getting archived"

The amazing thing about this is that over a couple years boats in SC will go up in price exactly as much as this subsidy allows and the only people who will have more money in their pockets the banks selling their new tax-payer funded boat loans
Nancy Mace@NancyMace

South Carolina's boating industry generates $6.5 BILLION in annual economic impact and supports 27,100+ jobs statewide. We introduced the No Tax on Boat Loan Interest Act of 2026. If you can deduct interest on your car loan, you should be able to deduct interest on your boat loan. We're saving you money. SOUTH CAROLINA STRONG.
