Hence self-sup. or OE methods currently set also the SOTA. Learning relevant representations purely from normal data seems hard-to-impossible though.

@tdietterich @roydanroy (1) Representation ultimately (fundamentally somewhat also trivially) defines anomaly. Under different representations, the same data instance can either be normal or anomalous. Thus, anomalies are inherently contextual (the cat/dog example in our review examplifies this).

Who's an expert in anomaly detection out there? What's are the key texts in this area? Does it have a rigorous theoretical foundation? That handles the adversarial aspects? And what about deep learning and in-roads there?
