See the results of a custom FEM solver that Artem Smirnov developed, demonstrated in this multi-pane glass sequence🪟🔫Good thing he labeled which was ref and which was CG - could you spot which was which? Wonder what the @TheSlowMoGuys think about it🤔 Full res+more info here -- youtube.com/watch?v=DvDQWM…

some fun tests i did getting carried away with that flip tutorial, and then taking that into some PDG wedging to make some fun variants of this FLIP > Vellum softbody thing. first clip is a bunch of wedges together and following are clips wedged out in the process :)

Found this fun practice in 2017 when I started learning #Houdini. Everything was procedurally modelled&animated with vex wrangles (including a minimum IK solver for the tentacles) in a SOP solver. Never had the time to push it further but might still be interesting to share.

@mumblinglewis I get that those nodes / tools (such as Color Correct etc) are Material nodes and ROP nodes are OUT nodes.. so it makes sense to have them in different context from that point of view. I hope they focus on the "oldschool" obj/mat/out workflow, instead or as much as Solaris...

@lukasvojir I prefer the render target to be an independent rop node as the second input of an Octane rop node (like how you can use render params in Solaris) so that you can switch between different render kernels by rewiring them to the second input of the final octane rop

@mumblinglewis The mat Render Target actually makes sense though since inside are all the standalone render settings replicated in node fashion and can be tweaked with shader tools - such as applying color correction on HDRI, combining multiple hdris, etc - or rewired

@lukasvojir Finally! As much as I like octane render by itself I can't tell how much I hate the ux of this current plugin with those years old bugs like crazy exposure slider value and weird MAT shader to control render settings etc, hope they get them fixed soon!

@TomasNovakFX We switched to Octane last October. It is less bugy, more responsive, looks better (subjective), generally more pleasant to work with due to lack of slow downs and crashes (compared to Redshift) but it does have some weird un-intuitive quirks that take time getting used to

@lukasvojir Any sing of Octane Houdini plugin roadmap? I am torn between a resub to Redshift or switch to Octane I used back in the day of my C4D. What are your thoughts on the difference between these two when using them in Houdini?

I just spent 37 straight minutes with my jaw on the fucking floor, because it's quite uncommon to see this level of ambition, creativity and perfect execution all in a single package. Pretty sure @xk_studio is the most interesting (maybe even the best) motion design studio working right now. Just pure beauty and madness.
