First look at 52, a macOS note app I'm building around one simple idea: Weeks are the right unit of time for thinking Not days (too small), not months (too big). Focus on one work week at a time. Markdown notes + task extraction + local AI + zero subscription Still rough, but it's coming together 👇

In the AI era, taste is the differentiator for the individual and specialization is the differentiator for the product. Stop trying to build the 'everything' app.

Most note apps want you to build a second brain. I wanted something simpler. 52 focuses on one week at a time. Everything lives in the note - tasks, people, career milestones. No jumping between views. No overhead. Markdown. Fully local. One surface.

@lukevz This looks awesome! Nice work, bro! I love the local file storage makes it feel portable. The inline tasks added to a master todo list is slick! How do I sign up for beta??

The new "Wandering Mind" custom iOS app icon is now also available to everyone who installed the mymind iPhone app. I love the soft abstraction of this one. Looks even better on the home screen.

52 is coming together nicely. 3 weeks ago the app didn't exist... now I've been using it every single day at work and really enjoying the workflow so far.

Oura Ring or Apple Watch? After a year of wearing both, the honest answer is it depends on whether you want a recovery tracker or a fitness tracker. My take, plus my wife's perspective as a certified personal trainer.

The best product teams are a three-way tug-of-war: — PM: which problem matters most, and by when — Engineering: what can actually be built (and maintained) — Design: what stays coherent as it grows That friction is a healthy tension. Lose one voice and you may ship faster, but you’ll be sprinting off-course.

A design system that never ships to production is just expensive documentation.

AI won't fix a broken process. It'll just break it 10x faster.

Taste isn't something you have or don't have. It's what happens when you stay curious long enough that pattern recognition becomes instinct. The designers I respect most aren't the ones who know every Figma plugin. They're the ones who ask better questions: - Why does this cafe feel different? - What made that onboarding flow stick? - Why does this chair look so premium? They're doing the work outside the work. Watching how people move through airports. Noticing why one product page converts and another doesn't. Reading outside their discipline. Taste compounds when you ask thoughtful questions across contexts, not just inside your artboard. Most people stop at "I like this." The ones with taste ask "Why does this work?" That gap is the whole game.

selects Sonnet to be usage-conscious* wastes 10 minutes troubleshooting *selects Opus anyway* "that didn't fix it"
