guy i know does a ton of app dating and i saw a message from _Leslie (TEXAS, Burner) turns out: “everyone gets the underscore when i'm dating them. so that periodically i can go through and it's easy to purge” one wolf inside of me is impressed by the operational efficiency, the other shudders at the soullessness of operating on your yearnings so efficiently i feel this tension often in sf

did you bounce off nearly all of it equally hard and just noped the whole thing? or some parts could've resonated except others irked you so you mistrusted it overall? i've been practicing accepting not throwing out the baby with the bathwater, and it's def wip for me i actually have a book coming in the mail which a friend who knows me super well predicts will be my most high-baby high-bathwater book yet... fingers crossed!

the term "phatic tokens" is going to change my life bc it's a handle to an idea that i default often forget (esp when dysregulated), which will serve me well to keep in mind... me: how do i update to be more accepting of people doing this thing? i do agree with you that this doesn't mean she has bad character. but at the same time SHE DID FAKE A WOW WHEN SHE DIDNT KNOW WHAT SHE WAS WOW'ING AND THAT IS LYING TO ME claude:

ah! this alarm bell sounds for me every time i approach byron katie's the work. it feels really gaslight-y to me and i dig in my heels fastttttt. several people i trust and love it though, and it's been a long time small inner nag in me.... the distance between my take on her and theirs

@lumpy__lump thinking about this rn. EK is interesting and i've done a little myself, i think it gets at stuff more straightforward modalities might pass over, but i think making it the centerpiece of your whole approach to inner work risks entrenching "good-bad inversions"

it's odd to think that wild geese is only 40 years old... who told our grandparents that they did not have to be good? did their knees bleed from the desert miles? how did the soft animal of their bodies remember it was allowed to love what it loves? we're barely the second generation to have grown up with it
