Really rather proud of this puppy. Last year, we gathered a bunch of chefs and foodies from around Bolivia, to harvest some Vischoqueña from San Roque and create this rosé. We got them all to sign their names on the winery wall; and created a label from it. Our Signature rosé.

Soon we won't be able to use nightlights as a proxy for economic growth. Why? It's due to limitations of its spectral bands. Here's the breakdown in simple terms:

The problem is that they have no access to financing, so they tend to sell the wood at low prices to private wood processing companies. However, these also have very limited access to financing.

@Chullunka I don't think the article says that. We should expand forestry concessions in "other areas" rather than "protected areas".

🤔… not sure if I agree with this . To protect the “protected areas” we should put the management in private hands…really?

@jedavalosc @sdsnbolivia @numbers4nature @MalkyHarb I don't have similar information for other countries, but since Bolivia has one of the highest levels of deforestation in the world, it is quite possible that it is underperforming under both regimes.

@lykkeeandersen @sdsnbolivia @numbers4nature @MalkyHarb Very interesting! Do we know how these numbers perform viz other countries of the region (benchmarks) ? Perhaps Bolivia is underperforming under both regimes?

Por los datos expuestos, no serían $us 200 millones sino más de $us 1310 millones los que Bolivia obtendría anualmente por impedir la deforestación en áreas protegidas.

Bolivia experienced alarming rates of deforestation during the 2016-2021 period. Even within Protected Areas, more than half a million hectares of forest were lost. This map shows the 25 PAs with the highest forest loss during 2016-2021. Solutions here: sdsnbolivia.org/en/deforestati…

Useful exercise to get things into perspective: UPB emissions: 3105 tCO2. Emissions reductions from campus solar panels: 39 tCO2. Absorption by campus trees: 8 tCO2. Emissions from deforestation in Bolivia: ~100.000.000 tCO2. Conclusion: Focus on preventing deforestation.
