On this day in 1865, more than two years after President Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation, Union troops arrived in Galveston Bay, Texas to free the last remaining enslaved African Americans. Juneteenth is a powerful reminder of the relentless pursuit of freedom, a cause championed by the great Frederick Douglass. Douglass, an escaped slave turned leading abolitionist, dedicated his life towards fighting for justice and equality and after each win, never stopped pushing for more. Now it's our turn — whether it's criminal justice reform, free speech, school choice, or property rights, there is much more work to do for the cause of freedom. Original artwork by: @amytheartist 🎨

@jbhenchman Only in the rebelling states. Slavery was allowed to exist until Dec 18, 1865 in the union states that had it, and while I'd prefer that date as the holiday I'm not against Juneteenth being celebrated.

Can your school force you to say the Pledge of Allegiance? Can you shout "fire!" in a crowded theatre? What about hate speech, is that legal? Answers to these common free speech questions and more in my latest video with @reason

If you don’t debate me on a podcast it’s proof totally proof that you are scared of any and all ideas that conflict with your personal philosophy. It’s also proof that that you are super unserious about everything you’ve ever, ever tweeted about ever. Checkmate leftists 😂

Ask yourselves why the media is reporting on Hunter Biden but not Dexter Taylor. Visit Dexter Taylor's defense website at the link in our bio.

@JoshEakle Massie has called out Trump on multiple occasions and endorsed Trump's primary opponent. MAGA has been hostile towards Massie, Trump attempted to have Massie primaried with hundreds of thousands of dollars. Massie is one of the few Republicans with integrity. Certainly not MAGA

@reason To my knowledge that court case only covers students not staff. We are still required to say it.

Schools are attempting to force students and staff to say the Pledge of Allegiance, even though a decades-old Supreme Court ruling says they can't. reason.com/2024/06/03/mar…

Wolverines! #coleg approved a bipartisan effort to reintroduce the North American wolverine to the state with appropriate guardrails. CO will be first in the world to undertake restoration of this incredibly rare species.

@LPGeorgia Makes sense you ran a defense contractor for governor. Ron Paul and his "let's bomb Afghani civilians" vote would be proud.

@jdcmedlock Any means testing should use a simple formula rather than cutoffs which cause discontinuities and reversals. But politicians and most of the electorate are too math-illiterate for it to catch on.

Means-testing is economically equivalent to a tax, but being embedded in the benefit code rather than the tax code allows it to sidestep normative views on what fair taxation looks like. No one would propose a greater than 100% marginal tax rate around $50k, but here we are

If a politician proposed taxing disabled people $8000 for getting married, people would dismiss it as absurd and mean spirited — but this is what we've done with poorly designed means-testing

Why were thousands of people arrested or ticketed for violating those "non-binding" recommendations? Why were church services broken up? Restaurants shuttered? Store owners fined? People beaten by cops for not wearing a mask? People fired from their jobs? That's all on Fauci.

@gaughen I see the only valid zoning law is one distinguishing between residential/commercial areas and industrial zones (like the tanneries pockmarking my city)

I’m just gonna say it out loud: zoning is very much warfare between generations, classes, and races. It was created by wealthy, older, often white, people to pull up the ladder so that younger people, poor people, and minorities would not be able to own property and build equity.

When the supply of a commodity is limited, but demand for it is steady or increasing, the price of that commodity increases. This is economics 101. The reason housing is so expensive right now is because supply is artificially limited. Zoning is designed to limit housing supply.

@reason @RBReich When SS started, the retirement age was greater than the average life expectancy. Raise the retirement age to 80, so it's in line with its origins, and everything is fine.
