@WiringTheBrain We call them complex diseases for a reason - there is no silver bullet of causation.

What have we learned from psychiatric genetics? wiringthebrain.com/2022/03/what-h… - enough to confirm genetic liability, but not to identify simple genetic causation (because complex disorders are genuinely complex!)

I am honored to attend the NSF 2023 MPS Workshop for New Investigators. I learned a lot about the funding application process and got my questions answered. Excitingly, I made friends and we got a chance to visit the NSF building. Many thanks to @NSF @UF @cwru

A message to all academics - skip Texas. So Iguess solution is do not give notive - just leave. I know when I was a grad student my PI moved and UT-Ausitn held onto his grants as long as possible. But this is really extreme.
Jason H. Moore, PhD@moorejh

Never heard of this happening to anyone. Usually they just give you the cold shoulder, cut off your funding, and sometimes take your grants. They do this to make other faculty think twice.. I.e. a threat

Last year, we assistant professors discussed about hiring a secretary to relieve us from lots of paperwork and document management. With Microsoft 365 copilot, it seems that we don’t need one anymore. @holly7holly @HHarryFeng @yilun_sun @JinKimMoz

Do the tools we have drive the questions we ask or the questions drive the development of appropriate tools? Sometimes I am not sure what drives what when I see science. Prefer the latter but I know it is not always possible

@scottmwilliams9 True. Why does everyone have to use p-value, though it does not make any sense in many scenarios? Researchers have been restricted in the scope of “golden standard” for so many years.

We are appropriately promoting diversity of study populations and research scientists. That is good but are we promoting diversity of methods, approaches and thoughts about how to study genetics and biology of disease or primarily orthodoxy? Need to accept all kinds of diversity

@scottmwilliams9 I guess this makes an ocean of junks which hinder researchers to do efficient literature review and identify significant contributions.

This astounds me. Yes, what does it mean to be an author of a paper?

A good diagram by @daniella_raz @TheEconomist Example: —95% of Americans age 65+ have had at least 2-shots —Most Covid deaths are in people age 65+ who are vaccinated —There's still ~90% reduction of death for vaccinated vs unvaccinated
