@luckytran This not China or North Korea so the government cannot do that legally. I take it then you will be buried with your mask on when your time comes?

The only lockdown that's happening is the locking out of higher risk people from society indefinitely because governments are refusing to enact basic public health policies to slow the spread of disease during an ongoing pandemic.

@oldbooksguy “Good” art does not automatically mean “happy”. Good art is art the invokes a reaction: happy, angry, unsettled. Bad art is art that doesn’t even register

Very sad this happened, but in this day and age educational institutions should be increasingly turning to innovative technologies to bolster their security measures and gain better insights into their school environments. Why didn’t this school do so? There in is the huge problem campussafetymagazine.com/safety/k-12-sc…

This is back to school in America. Run, hide, fight. Jump out of windows. Barricade behind doors in classrooms, dorms and bathrooms. Duck and cover. Hide under desks. Text your parents goodbye.

@LostInAmerica12 @Oregonian Mental health definitely needs to be addressed as well, but “aimless youth”? Who defines aimless? Are you recommending a conscription policy?

@Oregonian This is nothing but a mindless feel-good platitude that ineffective people cling to. Want to really solve the problem? Start here: No more silence, solve the mental health crisis OR No more silence, solve the aimless youth crisis

@Christopher35 If you served then you know for a fact that there is a ton of regulations in place for being armed. I sure wouldn’t have been able to just wander into the flag building armed.

In a sane country, we wouldn’t allow AR-15s in the hands of anyone, let alone a white supremacist with a history of mental issues. And we wouldn’t have to lock down whole school campuses and have students crawl out of windows to save themselves from an active shooter. Other countries have passed laws to prevent this madness. Yet, we allow it regularly to happen.

As a UNC Chapel Hill student who is currently still sheltering in place with no updates other than the sound of sirens and helicopters, thoughts and prayers aren’t enough. This shouldn’t happen. We shouldn’t have to go to class in fear of our lives. We need legislative change.
