The fridge is on, but there’s no one home.😡 The CSO in Q4 2024 has classified 70,149 dwellings (including holiday homes) as vacant, based on low electricity consumption of around 2 kWh per day (enough to power a medium-sized fridge for a day). It’s crazy that this is tolerated in the middle of a housing crisis, with yet another record of over 17,308 people in emergency accommodation last month, including 5,457 children. Plus, the Simon Community estimate as many as 290,000 people in Ireland are likely to be experiencing hidden homelessness, as friends or family are increasingly relied upon to provide accommodation for others. Hidden homelessness refers to individuals without a secure, permanent home who are not visible on the streets or in official statistics, often "couch-surfing," sharing overcrowded housing, or staying in squats. This is not normal and cannot be accepted. We need urgent action to prevent evictions and expand housing supply, and we can start by utilising these vacant houses. After all, it was called a 'national emergency' by Leo Varadkar back in 2018, when the homeless figure was 10,000. #HousingCrisis #DerelictIreland #VacantIreland #Ireland

@Turbinetraveler It's not his fault; it's the FAA and the ATC shortage.

Sligo Rovers are pleased to confirm that Phase 2 of the Showgrounds Floodlight Upgrade is nearing completion, with works scheduled to finish by the end of March. Supported through the Community Sports Facilities Fund from the Department of Culture, Communications and Sport, the final stage of the project will see the installation of new floodlight columns on the Treacy Avenue side of the ground. The upgrade represents a further investment in facilities at The Showgrounds for players, supporters and the wider community.

So @Ryanair, what you’re saying is, is my husband should take his mother to Rome for the day.. and leave her there. Is that what the radio ad means? Just to clarify.

@fallon_donal Looking forward to this census 🙂 My grandfather bought his brand-new house on Bath Avenue after a big win on the horses. Being originally from Ardrahan nearly cost him the place, but Fitzharris' pub of Ringsend stepped in and vouched for him. March 1925.

@TwoMadExplorers 1. We have our own airport fire brigade 2. If we’d a blocked drain, we’d call in a drainage engineer or plumber (we have those too), not “the fire brigade” 3. You’re claim is utter nonsense 4. Read #3 again

Oxford United will come together ahead of Wednesday night’s fixture against Blackburn Rovers to pay our respects following the tragic passing of Amelia Aplin, who collapsed during a Girls’ Academy game on Saturday. The Club can confirm a minute’s silence will be observed prior to kick-off, whilst players and coaching staff will wear black armbands during the match. We kindly ask that all supporters take their seats early to ensure the tribute can be conducted with the quiet reflection it deserves. Supporters are also invited to lay tributes outside the stadium before kick-off at the Ox statue in the South Stand car park. The Club would like to thank our supporters, our visitors from Blackburn Rovers and the wider football family for the overwhelming messages of sympathy, support and solidarity received over recent days. The thoughts of everyone at Oxford United remain with Amelia’s family, friends and teammates. oufc.co.uk/news/oxford-un…
