Reading comments. Yes, they were radar locked by the Swedes VR-37, but the SR-71's were flying in international airspace and the VR-37 had digital uplinks from ground based radar stations. The Russians on the other hand did shoot one down in Siberia in 1983 with Mig-31's and R-33 Missiles, still classified. The Soviet Union designed the Mig-31's and R-33 Missiles for one purpose to drive the SR-71 out of their skies.

No, they also exposed their hose to potential damage by putting the hose through broken glass windows. The shards cutting into the hose and rubbing against the hose as thousands of gallons of water flow through the hose. They could have easily hooked up the hose without routing the hose through the car. They were being petty. Why not just issue a ticket / fine than damage the vehicle?
