@KelseyTuoc With respect to human flourishing, postliberals of all stripes essentially act as parasites. They have some void that can't be filled without imposing their vision on other people, at the expense of those people's ability to pursue their own fulfillment without being oppressed.

I do think it's funny that Cassie, a Communist, and Vermuele, a theocrat, are both equally appalled at the liberal ideal that the state not be the provider of all moral meaning. Both your ideologies produce horrible hells for human beings!!

@KelseyTuoc You would think that liberals would see the wisdom of people with profoundly different perspectives on the world coming to the same conclusion on the coherence of liberalism. these people do not agree what so ever on core issues but their critiques are the same isnt that curious

@KelseyTuoc non society tolerates prodund disagreements over the good. this is a description of liberalism which bears no resemblance to reality. no one is allowed to violate fundamental rights for example.

Pluralism does not work only when we have a shared understanding of the good! It is in fact the social technology built for profound disagreement over what the good is!

It is precisely in a society like America - which, from the founding, has contained dissident groups with different understandings of the good and an acute sense of the risks of civil war over which to impose - that it is most important to separate meaning from the state.
Adrian Vermeule@Vermeullarmine

Imagine not being able to see that privatizing “man’s search for meaning” presupposes a thick, substantive view of meaning, of politics, and of human nature itself.

@AMK_Mapping_ I wonder if it is the supposed attack on ukraine which people have been talking about and it is launched to coincide with russian missile launches.

Russia has begun its large-scale, combined missile and drone attack on Ukraine. At least 3 Tu-160M strategic bombers are airborne from Ukrainka Airbase, flying to the western regions of Russia for launches of Kh-101 cruise missiles. They took off around an hour ago. It is not clear if they intend to launch missiles from the launch lines at Vologda Oblast or Saratov/Volgograd Oblast yet. 6-8 Tu-95MS are expected to take off from Olenya Airbase some time in the next few hours, where they will conduct launches alongside the Tu-160M aircraft. Live updates on this attack will follow below in a thread format ⬇️
AMK Mapping 🇳🇿@AMK_Mapping_

6 Tu-95MS are redeploying from Ukrainka Airbase in the Far East to Olenya Airbase in Murmansk Oblast. They will land in the next 2 hours. Additionally, up to 7 Tu-160M strategic bombers are equipped with Kh-101 cruise missiles at Ukrainka Airbase, some of which will be used in this upcoming attack. It's looking like the attack will indeed take place tonight, but I will update you all later, in the morning (my time zone).

@TheIntelFrog IDK either. Maybe they are going to keep doing this to attrit our patriot interceptors. we make at least 12 per week and we used 10 last night. launch 2-3 of these attacks per week to keep our Patriot missiles at this level and try to gain an advantage.

What's the message here? Five ballistic missiles launched at one of the most heavily defended air spaces 1,000 miles away isn't a 'surprise attack'. There are a lot of US forces much closer than Jordan that this 'surprise' had to fly over. It's also a very small attack that would almost certainly be intercepted.
U.S. Central Command@CENTCOM

At 5:45 p.m. ET today, Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps forces launched multiple ballistic missiles from Iran in an attempted surprise attack on U.S. forces based in the Middle East. All Iranian missiles were successfully intercepted. U.S. forces remain vigilant and at a high state of readiness.

This. This is a key difference between the Weimar Germany and the "Weimar Russia". After the collapse of the USSR, Russia has never been punished in any way. Instead, it received a massive amount of help - direct help in billions of dollars, subsidized credits in tens of billions, technology transfers and trade opportunities - in hundreds of billions of dollars. The Russian grievances were developed in spite of the massive help and support it received.
Anders Östlund@andersostlund

"Spare me the humiliation theory. Russia was not humiliated after the Cold War. It was indulged — and it read every kindness as weakness, every gift as tribute. The grievance was never mistreatment. The grievance was lost dominion."
