Attacks on fuel tankers and energy infrastructure in the Middle East are leading directly to higher fuel prices for Kiwis. That’s why we have joined the United Kingdom and other countries in condemning Iran’s attacks in the Gulf. Iran has forced the effective closure of the Strait of Hormuz to ships carrying fuel and other critical goods to places like New Zealand. New Zealand has a longstanding record of working with like-minded partners to ensure open supply lines for global trade. Obviously, any future decision for New Zealand to support multilateral efforts to ensure safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz would need to be considered by Cabinet.

The misrepresentation is inevitable because they have no shame. All these Government parties will end up doing is again reminding us how extremely fortunate we were that they were in opposition (NZ First from 2020 obviously).

Winston Peters & Simeon Brown pushing the same lie even though the Royal Commission confirmed Labour were not briefed. Tiresome dirty politics at a time when Peters should be showing leadership & managing the critical foreign affairs & fuel crisis within a rapidly changing world

This might be a controversial take, but if you want a $5 million game of rugby in Auckland, maybe the people who want to go should pay for it, not taxpayers? Bung $100 onto 50,000 tickets and it’s covered. Or, if it’s all about the economic benefit, let the businesses pay.

National hacks are trying to re-write history As Matthew Hooton wrote last year, Labour's Cullen, under PM Clarke, made significant surpluses for 9 years & even paid down debt National's Bill English delivered seven deficits. Ardern ran surpluses until Covid hit #nzpol #kiwi

@farmgeek Well, government pays or it doesn’t happen. And when it happens the government gets GST and extra income tax from businesses. Win/Win but they do such a poor job at explaining to the general public (your post and the comments on your post being evidence of that)

“International research shows that every $1 invested in risk reduction saves at least $4 in response and recovery” We had the ideal fund for projects like this - the $4.5 billion climate emergency response fund. But this govt wasted it on tax cuts. stuff.co.nz/nz-news/360932…

Mildly embarrassed that I’ve forgotten to tell my X friends that I am resigning from the New Zealand Parliament mid this year to take up a new role as President of the Law Commission in New Zealand. It’s a great role with law reform at its heart and I am absolutely thrilled. The Prime Minister has kindly asked me to stay as a Minister for a few months so, until then, I’m keeping on with my ministerial roles and my work as a constituency Member of Parliament. I’ve been an MP for 24 years and during that time have held 18 different ministerial posts. Time for a change! 😊

New Zealand recognises the leadership of the United States, in close coordination with nations from the region, on advancing peace in Gaza. We see a role for the Board of Peace in Gaza, to be carried out as mandated by UN Security Council Resolution 2803. A number of states, particularly from the region, have stepped up to contribute to the Board’s role on Gaza, and New Zealand would not add significant further value to that. As a leading founder and longstanding supporter of the United Nations, it is important that the Board’s work is complementary to and consistent with the UN Charter. It is a new body, and we need clarity on this, and on other questions relating to its scope, now and in the future. New Zealand will not be joining the Board in its current form but will continue to monitor developments. -WP

We have a office is in downtown Minneapolis. In broad daylight, people openly deal drugs outside. Most stores have half their product locked behind screens. Walking a few blocks feels unsafe. I’ve personally witnessed multiple incidents during short stays over the years. The pattern is always the same with the left. Cities go soft on crime, enforcement drops, consequences disappear and public spaces deteriorate. Businesses suffer, residents leave. Am glad something is being done about it. Same can be said for down town Auckland. Glad to see progress being made there.
