@bbclaurak At very best she’s demonstrated to be an atrocious judge of character with zero idea or concern about money & budgets - someone who shouldn’t have been anywhere near political power

Laura K interview could be a Prince Andy/Newsnight moment, if properly done. Why is she putting herself through the wringer, as a private citizen who’s legally off the hook? Because she cares about her legacy, perhaps - but then that was already dead in the water.

@DPJHodges That’s just not true. And you saying it over and over and over again does not make it so.

Going to say it again. It's impossible to accurately assess the state of British politics until Starmer goes. He is not simply unpopular. He is despised to an extent I have never seen before, and can't personally rationalise. But he represents a uniquely distorting prism.

@ginadavidsonlbc Tbh I’m really struggling this year with the list vote because of the ridiculous ranking some parties have given many of their best candidates

This is really interesting - what would change their minds at this stage? And this too - 15% of those intending to vote for a party are doing so to keep another party out. The likelihood of tactical voting is highest among those who intend to vote LibDem, Lab or Conservative.
Ipsos Scotland@IpsosScotland

74% of Scots say they have decided who to vote for on their constituency vote, compared to 57% in March. But 25% say they might still change their minds 👉 bit.ly/3QQYEe8

One thing I’ve never understood with this.. Most folk agree smart phones are harmful to young kids. But then parents say “I don’t want to make my child the odd one out etc, so I got her one” Why haven’t more parents joined forces & collectively refused to get their kids one🤷‍♀️🤔

@MaddieJBlack @AllisonPearson @kenkoi_lfc By all means oppose wind farms. There are strong arguments against. But those are based on facts, not this overdramatic woe-is-me, big-bad-wolf, flat earther nonsense.

I was in Wales today where beautiful countryside, prime grazing land, is being covered in giant windmills twice the height of Big Ben. Each propeller bigger than a jumbo jet. The “green jobs” being created are in China. It’s corrupt, toxic and evil.

@AllisonPearson @kenkoi_lfc In the Highlands of Scotland it’s even worse. It’s almost impossible to get away from the infrastructure. Homes and health ruined, property no longer saleable, compulsory purchase, animals and wildlife suffering, peatland destroyed and most of the turbines just sit doing nothing.

Men who support women's right to things that also benefit men (abortion, contraception, sex work) but dismiss as trivial nonsense issues that benefit only women (women-only spaces, lesbian dating sites, maternal health, women's sport) are telling you clearly who they are.

Our friends, the Brits, went from relinquishing their right to bear arms in 1997 to standing on the edge of the Islamist abyss today. Our Second Amendment is not about the right to go duck hunting, folks. It’s about keeping power in the hands of The People.

I am and always have been a fan of France. I started studying French in 4th grade. I minored in French in college and love travelling there. But France today is a problem. France is guided by “France first.” Unlike “America First” which strengthens and benefits the world militarily, commercially and morally, France First sells out to the highest bidder. It’s the underbelly of French historical collaboration with Nazi Germany. It undermines the West, and Ukraine, as France cuts deals with Russian and is a top buyer of Russian natural gas. It’s why they work with the IRGC in Iran so French ships can transit the Straits of Hormuz. There’s no one they won’t cut a commercial deal with. Their immigration policies have turned their country substantially over to Muslims whose motives and influence are even more problematic. All that is bad enough. But now they won’t give the US overflight rights as we fight in Iran. We don’t want their troops or their ships. We want and should have overflight rights. France is a historical headache for the US and much of the west. French governments relish playing that role. France is only sometimes an ally. France is a real problem for the West.

@MichelleDewbs Arguably if you use your income - state provided or not - to purchase VATable goods & services then you are a taxpayer. Perhaps not a net contributor, but still a tax payer. Are tax exiles regularly nipping home for a bit of shopping or are they more likely hitting Dubai’s malls?

I’ve seen this view expressed a lot. So I have a genuine question; If “no representation without taxation” is your mantra.. ….What happens re all the British citizens in this country who pay precisely zero in tax, but instead live off state benefits? 🤔
Kevin Maguire@Kevin_Maguire

No representation without taxation! British tax exile migrants in the Middle East aren’t so smug now. Time for the UK to adopt a US-style link of taxation to nationality - not residency. Want a British passport and everything it gives? Pay fair instead of freeloading.
