@culturewarnotes You can put your foot on the scale for college and employment but you can’t put your foot on the scale of nature. Asians are still the best performing race. You can change groups starting point but not their trajectory.

Software is no longer eating the world. Hardware is. The list below is of the most valuable companies in the world. Where are the pure software companies on the list? Almost nowhere to be found. Nvidia is a chip company. Apple is a chip and hardware company. So is TSMC. So is Broadcom. Tesla is a car company that makes chips. Saudi Aramco drills for oil, among things. These are companies that make chips and other real things. Things you can touch. And even SW stalwarts like Alphabet, Amazon and MSFT are now making chips and plowing hundreds of billions into data centers - concrete buildings filled with big iron hardware. Marc Andreessen famously said software would eat the world. For a while, it did. Now, making real things is eating the world. And at @cerebras we make the fastest AI chips in the world.

@FraserNelson Allowing Deepmind to be acquired by a foreign company for what is now a seed round might have been the worst mistake Britain made in my lifetime and that’s saying a lot.

The story of DeepMind is a reminder of why, far from being “broken,” Britain is still capable of nurturing (and keeping) world class genius. My column on what this AI startup tells us about what’s going right in the country:- thetimes.com/article/b86332…

Super interesting take, since babies don't come with any in-built knowledge. The time it takes to go from zero knowledge to frontier knowledge keeps increasing and at some point I wonder it might take more than a lifetime for someone to discover something the world doesn't know about!

Teachers are a cost center. They bring in no revenue. Administrators are the profit center. They bring in government contracts (loans, grants, etc). That's why teachers are mostly part-time employees, while administrators are almost never part-time. Teachers are the counter help and fry cooks. The business is to line employee pockets with tax dollars. This is the only purpose of the education industry. If you thought it had a different purpose, you bought the con.

Hard to argue that SpaceX is worth more than $100 billion based on the numbers. Certainly their technology is deeply impressive but how one can value this thing is beyond my grasp. Please don't shadow ban me Mr. Musk.

I've been thinking about this one since this stat started making the rounds. Have a college friend who's crazy smart - total freakazoid genius. From the age of ~20 => 25 I watched her gradually internalize that she was likely gonna have to marry someone she thought was an idiot
Jake Kozloski@jakozloski

"Would you marry someone less intelligent than you?" Outright "no": Women: 45% Men: 8% Women are nearly 6x more likely to rule it out entirely. The single largest gender disparity in our deep-question dataset.
