A great example of community during covid: @Isle20Shop now has over 300 island businesses from Arran to Unst and everywhere in between. There's a huge range of crafts, from soap to glass (to modern Harris Tweed bags...) and your support really helps folk get through.

I've been spending a lot of time exploring human habitation of the Flow Country World Heritage Site this winter. There's 185 shieling sites (mapped) across the area and I've used historical records to find a total of 586 shieling huts. This is only recorded shieling huts.

A wonderful @adamweymouth report on indigenous strains of “bere” barley in the Scottish isles: “This is a hard place to live…. [But] locked away in bere is a genetic richness that provides some answers about how we might live in balance with the world.” inkcapjournal.co.uk/the-ancient-cr…

Carloway FC on Lewis have faced many challenges since 1933, as recorded in a new book by Eachainn and Graeme Miller. But, backed by local stalwarts, former Scotland legend, Ronnie Mackinnon, and visits from Gothenburg Greats, they've survived and thrived! pressandjournal.co.uk/fp/lifestyle/6…

I’m being driven mad by this. There’s a 13th/14th century detailed account of Ireland, written by a French or Italian fella on pilgrimage. It describes the dress &customs of Irish people. The full text is definitely somewhere on UCCs website. Does anyone know what the text is?

If you don’t fix the housing – if you don’t go all in on supporting the vernacular language and culture – then you will drain every last bit of generational crofting and fishing expertise out of the Highlands and Islands. It's me in the @ScotNational 👇 thenational.scot/politics/24079…
