A little thing happened last night - thankful to @UNL @UNLSNR for the support and for so many mentors, friends, colleagues, and students that I’ve worked with along the way.

@gretchen_H20 Listen to a podcast while knitting, painting, drawing, baking etc. That's what I did after knee surgery. Could also go through books, clothes, etc. and pull out things to toss or donate. I found doing things that resulted in tangible accomplishments helped.

Turns out medical leave is hard when you are used to being busy! The draw to start working is creeping in, despite the fact that I can't really read or focus on things yet. Advice on how to focus on rest and recovery, without going insane from boredom?

@creekthinker @andrewrypel Our baby still has 2 months to go before being vaccinated. She starts daycare in 2 weeks and I'm fully expecting her to bring it home to the rest of us...

My family made it two weeks into my return to campus after 2.5 years home, and two weeks into my kids’ schools’ new mask-optional rule, before getting COVID. (We’ve been masked, always.) So “personal choice” public health policy can go fuck itself.

@glennq875 @biologistimo I've only ever been asked about pregnancies and live births, though. To specifically ask about an abortion is odd. If the info was relevant for some reason, they would ask if you had a d&c or taken certain medications.

@biologistimo A doctor asking about what medical procedure you've had seems very relevant.

Yesterday during the intake of my doctor’s appointment the nurse asked if I’ve ever had an abortion. It took me by surprise, as in 17 years of seeing physicians of every speciality I have never been asked that question directly.

@quendi I am going on maternity leave so I've been turning down all requests the last 4 weeks because can't guarantee it'll get done. But I feel bad! I think I'm up to ~20 that I've tuned down and got another this morning.

@limnoliver Yup. I'm counting the says until CJ turns 5! Of course, then I've still got another with no vaccine in sight.

Now in our umpteenth week of daycare closures bc of Covid exposure. In addition to the health benefits, a vaccine would help us string together a few full weeks of work 😩
