@KhyronXc @Oilfield_Rando That's correct - Airbus actually made the changes to the pitot tube specifications (which PNs were allowed) before the crash but Air France hadn't replaced it yet. Tragically, it was scheduled to be replaced on that airframe upon the completion of that flight.

@madrockxvx @Oilfield_Rando I think that's the one I was thinking of I will Google it later. They made a change to the instrument following the crash I'm thinking of as well as updated flight sim training.

@KhyronXc @Oilfield_Rando If you’re thinking of AF447, the pitot tube icing was one factor but did not cause the crash. The poorly trained crew caused the crash when they misinterpreted the failure and put in opposite control forces. AF almost did it again with a 777 on approach to CDG a few years ago.

Probably 15-20 years ago there was a plane crashed due to icing on one of the instruments that determines air speed. Flat spins can be caused by stalling, not just engine failure, as with enough air speed a plane can glide. If an instrument malfunctioed causing the airspeed to be wrong a stall could cause this. I'm not an expert though I have flown light aircraft. But the terror experienced by the people on board would be unimaginable.

@MCCCANM Really think it's ridiculous the anchors got fired over this. They just read the teleprompter... Whoever wrote the script should be fired, but not the folks just reading it live. They don't read ahead and have time to think, they just read what it says.

I have just watched this video of an engine failure in a 172? from Australia. I found myself thinking “go on…go on” as the shadow of the aircraft gets bigger on the buildings below….stretching that glide. It seems that the last second decision to go for the taxiway was the right one…resulting in a safe outcome. What’s your thoughts on this approach and what would you have done differently? I have some thoughts but let’s see what you think.
