Glasgow is a cracking city, but we’ve lost that sense of pride in too many of our communities. I’m standing here where I used to go to Brownies as a wee girl. It should be a place full of memories… but instead it’s been demolished and left to rot, covered in litter. That’s not good enough. Places like this used to bring people together. Now they’re being neglected, and it sends a message that our communities don’t matter. That’s exactly why I launched my Pride in the Community initiative, working with local schools and young people to rebuild that sense of respect, responsibility and pride in where we live, for future generations.

After summiting the final Munro of his route, Ben Klibreck, ferocious winds knocked him to the ground, leaving him with a badly broken ankle and stranded high on the mountain in extreme conditions. What followed was a long, cold wait and an 18-hour rescue – thanks to the extraordinary efforts of Assynt Mountain Rescue, whose ground team and helicopter crew brought Jake safely off the mountain. We want to send Jake our heartfelt thanks and admiration. He showed remarkable resilience and presence of mind to call for help and deploy his emergency shelter while he waited for help.
