You have to go through the green card process, it's the only way and that path is closed to all Haitians, even if you had a valid sponsorship and have gone through the full 15 years process no final interviews or visas are granted for Haitians.

Mortgage lending standards have not changed in fact they have become tighter. Banks have no incentive to lend to someone who is a high risk of default. So maybe the reason that 30% qualified is because they built up their credit and paid their bills on time, worked hard earned a decent living and had the income necessary? Contrary to what right wingers are claiming.

Everyone seems to misinterpret Ian’s character in #Obsession I keep seeing the take that Ian is deliberately sabotaging Bear’s chances with Nikki, i feel this is absolutely not the case and it misses the point of his character. The film opens with Ian and Bear practicing asking Nikki out with a waitress in her stead, Ian suddenly and rudely dismisses the waitress once she’s completed her function as a prop in their scene, this is to convey to us that Ian is a misogynist with very little regard for women as people. Ian does not understand that his advice to bear, to avoid genuine sentimentality in favor of toxic negging, is terrible and misogynistic advice, it makes it clear that a woman would actually appreciate this by showing the waitress being genuinely moved by his words, Ian’s inability to understand this is the very reason Nikki does not wish to be with Ian. Outside the bar after trivia night Ian says “get your girl home” and Nikki recoils in disgust saying “ew, don’t say it like that!”, not because she is disgusted by the notion of being with Bear, but because Ian can’t see her as her own person, when she was with Ian, to him she was just “Ian’s girl”, now to him she is “Bear’s girl”, her only significance as a person being in her relation to a man. Ian is the patriarchy reinforcing itself, Bear choosing to go with misogynistic advice instead of confessing his true feelings is the cause of all the suffering. The patriarchy is the villain.

I think the meta interpretation of what MeToo actually was about was way overblown by people who didn’t take the time to understand the very serious and important issues that needed to be culturally addressed about the criminality and exploitation of women by powerful men in positions of industry power, celebrity status, and employment authority over them. It was never a campaign to end courtship or flirting or dating, etc. Men who took it that way were likely the problem in the first place. Certainly hasn’t stopped the gentlemen and non-creeps of the world from getting along just fine.
