Quarterly earnings over and we find ourselves becoming accidental long term investors in many stocks which posted poor quarterly results.
Some may recover within a month while many takes time more than year.

For those who are asking about balanced advantage funds:
They are also called as dynamic asset allocation funds. They invest in stocks, arbitrage, corporate bonds, Government Securities, international stocks, bank deposits, hedge the positions, write options and so on.
They can change asset allocation according to market opportunities. For example, they can invest 30% or 80% in net equities. To my knowledge, no other category has mandate to be this flexible.
The challenge is choosing the right funds which is matching your needs. Every fund house manages their balanced advantage funds in an unique manner. There is no common strategy among fund houses.
So you need to look at the pedigree of the fund house, understand the models based on which they change asset allocation, how wisely they use the flexibility provided to them, long term annualised returns, maximum downside which has happened in the past and so on.
I would sincerely suggest if you want to invest in balanced advantage funds, go through an informed mutual fund distributor.
Though this fund is designed for risk averse or conservative investor, you need an expert to guide you in choosing these funds. As I said, since so much flexibility is there, each fund house manage this category in it's own way.
