Labor and human rights groups in India are bringing a Fair Food Program-style model to the sugar industry, hoping to push big brands to sign binding legal agreements to protect workers and adopt humane standards. ciw-online.org/blog/2025/03/f…

The @ndtv piece claims Transparency International Bangladesh found over 2,000 cases of minorities being targeted since Hasina’s government fell. Curious, I asked TIB’s executive director Iftekharuzzaman, who said, “No idea where they got this figure from.”ndtv.com/opinion/bangla…

There are indeed human rights concerns in Bangladesh, some of them quite serious, but this highly inaccurate and misleading APPG report is a disgrace, failing to provide any proper context and seriously exaggerating the problems. It is quite extraordinary for a UK parliamentary report - that has never written any report on Bangladesh before - to expose itself as so strongly biased towards the point of view of a foreign political party, the Awami League, whose law enforcement authorities, just a few months ago conducted a "massacre" of hundreds of civilians. The chairs of the Commonwealth APPG - @AndrewRosindell, @SyedKamall, @BaronessUddin, @AJogee1 - should retract this report immediately and significantly re-write it. 6/

1/🧵 Kazi Anis Ahmed, a liberal Bangladeshi media tycoon, covertly financed a far-right lobbying campaign in Washington via a Dubai firm. Aligning with Sheikh Hasina’s now-deposed regime, he risked violating laws. Here’s how it unraveled: netra.news/2024/kazi-anis…

This story is developing quickly. I have just spoken to AFP's fact checker Qadaruddin Shishir, who has confirmed that the video was (a) first posted on social media at least six years ago in 2018; (b) that in 2019, the Daily Mail along with other media, showing screen shots from the video, attributed responsibility for the crime to members of the Primer Comando da Capital, a Brazil-based criminal organisation, who were dismembering an associate of another group in a Paraguayan jail cell. Therefore the crime was not committed "yesterday" as @ArifaRahmanRuma claims. It also never occurred in #Bangladesh at all, so Jamaat-e-Islami (as she also claimed) could not have been responsible. So just to be absolutely clear. Jamaat-e-Islami is totally exonerated from any involvement in the crimes depicted in this video. It is now clear that the posting of this video is a perfect example of disinformation being spread by certain supporters of the Awami League. I think @ArifaRahmanRuma has totally discredited herself in relation to all her comments on Bangladesh. dailymail.co.uk/news/article-7…

The UK and European spokesperson of the Jamaat-e-Islami has responded to my tweet below where I had commented on the video which showed a brutal attack. Muhammad Mollah told me this: “Jamaat denies unequivocally any involvement in the incident depicted in the video. We have contacted our leaders in Narsingdhi and they know nothing about the incident. The party was not at all involved in it. Such behaviour goes against the education, motivation and the training of those involved in the Jamaat. It is not only a false allegation, it is propaganda by the Awami League and we challenge the party to prove their claim. We also demand an apology from those claiming we are responsible.” [Please note, that I never accused the Jamaat of involvement in this incident. Only that journalists and others, including the Jamaat (since the party was being accused) should investigate.]

Rohingya National League
Rohingya National League@RohingyaLe52935·
“Rohingya National League Denounces Arakan Army's Systematic Eradication Plan of Rohingya Community” On behalf of The Rohingya National League, we express our deep concern and outrage over the alarming reports of a systematic plan by the Arakan Army (AA) to completely eradicate the Rohingya community. According to credible sources from Buthidaung Township, the Arakan Army has meticulously organized a campaign to expel the Rohingya people from Buthidaung and Maungdaw townships. The disturbing reports indicate that the AA is targeting village after village, committing atrocities that include the killing of Rohingya villagers, followed by the looting and burning of their homes. As part of their heinous plan, the Arakan Army is extorting money from Rohingya families for basic actions such as moving from one village to another. The extortion extends to those attempting the perilous journey to Malaysia, where the AA demands 1 million kyats per person. Additionally, every villager is forced to pay a monthly tax under threat of violence. The Arakan Army is also forcibly recruiting villagers, often taking males from each family to serve as human shields on the battlefield. As a result, hundreds of male members of the Rohingya community have been either arrested by the AA or have fled the country to avoid conscription. The AA has now imposed severe restrictions on the movement of Rohingya villagers, effectively cutting off their access to safety and livelihood. This calculated strategy appears to be designed to force the Rohingya community out of the region by eliminating male members who might share their plight with the international community. Following this, the female members are left vulnerable, facing either death or the perilous journey to Bangladesh or Malaysia. We urgently call upon the international community, human rights organizations, and all relevant authorities to take immediate action to prevent this ongoing genocide. The Rohingya community cannot be abandoned in this time of desperate need. The world must act now to hold the perpetrators accountable and ensure the protection of the Rohingya people. @StatePRM @StateDeptSpox @StateDeputySpox @CounselorDOS #UN #EU #OIC #ASEAN #amnestyinternational #humanrightswatch #unsecretarygeneral #saverohingya
