@CiaranDanielz Did she tell her daughter to reject 'Feminine stereotypes" too? Somehow I doubt it. This type of mother thinks only women can be right, men are always wrong and need to be 'fixed'
English

What i love about this and the lack of self awareness of the people sharing it, Is exactly the same mentality of homophobic christians trying to forcibly raise a super straight manly son who ends up still being gay and they get upset about it.

"I wasn't sure what to do."
English

@SirBylHolte One more time about "the book" in this case. Nolan is using a FEMINIST translation of THE ODYSSEY not a standard translation. The translator is notorious for slanting a text her way (ie, DEI, etc...)
English

True, "The Odyssey" is a work of fiction.
But Christopher Nolan's version is a work of PARODY.
He didn’t just cast Lupita Nyong’o as Helen of Troy by accident.
It isn’t a random race-swapping.
It’s a direct, intentional attack on the Western ideal of feminine beauty.
For thousands of years, the West celebrated the fair-skinned woman:
Pale complexion, large breasts, shapely hips, graceful features, sensual but refined — the face that launched a thousand ships.
Nyong’o is the deliberate opposite on every count.
And that’s the entire point.
If they’d cast her as a servant, a witch, or some side character, the outrage would be mild.
But they put her in the role of Helen of Troy — the literal gold standard of European feminine beauty in our foundational myths.
It’s not about "diversity" or “representation.”
It’s about telling White people their beauty standard is invalid - while forcing everyone else to accept the new one.
Christopher Nolan just SOLD US OUT by helping them do it on the biggest stage possible.

@noods_spicy @F4llenD @HuntressSellia I don't hate the T people (the real ones, not the posers) but their issues are really NOT ours.
English

@F4llenD @HuntressSellia The T is the reason we have rights today you dumb fuck. Never disrespect the women who carried us.

I know the middle one is some pedo shit but what the hell are the ones on the sides, dream stans and... pornhub?

@JoyceCarolOates In my experience Liberals are the least tolerant people I've known, far more so than Conservatives. I imagine Bluesky as dull, sleepy self-satisfied. Lively discussion lives on X
English

not sure if anyone is at Bluesky. when I visit the site all is calm, unchanging; I have not had a single new follower in many months; exchanges are always interesting & intelligent but relatively few. Bluesky exudes the air of an upscale mall, beautifully maintained, hushed.
one will likely not be mobbed or mugged here but one will likely not feel a quickening of the heart, a jab of adrenaline. Twitter may be a "cesspool"-- at least in some quarters--but I think of it as lively like the old Madison Square Garden: raucous, unpredictable, obnoxious, good fun, surprises.
English

@OrgRealAR @SirBylHolte However. I must correct what i said. Nolan chose a feminist translation of THE ODYSSEY for this film, so it is based not on Homer, but on 21st century ideology 😫
English

Because she is described as white with golden locks in the text. It matters not if she was real. The issue here is that they are changing the ancient Greek literature, which is disrespectful.
Plus, Modern Greeks trace their lineage to early Neolithic farmers from Anatolia and Bronze Age civilizations, particularly the Mycenaeans and Minoans.
Sub-Saharan Africans are a different lineage, and both follow distinct and separate migration patterns. There were no sub-Saharan Africans in Greece at that time, but there were some blond-haired, blue-eyed whites in Greece, Northern Italy, Syria, and around the Mediterranean.
English

@OrgRealAR @SirBylHolte Ok good points. Respect the text
I can't argue with that
English

@SirBylHolte Well at least they didn't cast a man as Helen of Troy 😎
English

@the_culturist_ Random spots of beauty in the texture. Overall composition is strong, framing the work as art.
English

@Gaynotqueer1 I would have thought they'd be tired of this total nonsense by now 😫 is it still in style to hate your own gender and race?
English

@JoeGayHistorian They don't really want us anyway. Best to ignore them.

@jamesklug The country is in big trouble... having so many people like this around

@SpeechUnion "If the Pavillion really did exist to promote freedom of expression, it wouldn’t cancel performances due to the fact it may offend people." Exactly 👍
English

A Devon theatre has cancelled Roy “Chubby” Brown’s performance over “inclusion” concerns.
Exmouth Pavillion informed the comedian that it had cancelled his performance — part of his “No Offence Meant” tour — as the show “no longer aligns with the organisations long-term strategic direction”.
The theatre said that it wants to promote “inclusion, wellbeing and community cohesion”.
The 81-year-old comedian has been banned from performing several times before and has been accused of racism. This is despite the posters advertising his performance warning “those easily offended stay away”, discouraging those under the age of 18 from attending and saying “This is an adult comedy and not intended to offend”.
Following the decision, the comedian made a statement via social media:
“Unfortunately, the Exmouth Pavilion’s new management informed us late Friday night by email that they would be cancelling Roy’s planned performance.
“To cut the email short, the explanation on the email was, and I quote one sentence, ‘This show no longer aligns with the organisation’s long-term strategic direction’.
“Make of that what you will and I think you can guess what my opinion is, but let’s not go over old ground again.
“One thing I will just say, and this is totally my opinion, and you may or may not agree, but as an individual, you have a personal right to decide for yourself.
“Wouldn’t the sensible thing, if the new management has an issue for any reason with the Chubby show, have been to honour the contracted booking and let the show go ahead?”
He went on to add: “cancelling a show three-and-a-half months before the actual date when fans have bought tickets and probably made travel plans” was “totally the wrong decision”.
“I have since talked to one of the theatre management to try and make sense of the situation and, although obvious to say we see it totally differently would be an understatement, sadly the decision will not be reversed”.
A counter statement from a spokesperson for LED Community Leisure — which runs the Pavillion — said: “As a public community venue, Exmouth Pavilion exists to promote culture, the arts and freedom of expression.
“We recognise that this decision will have caused disappointment and inconvenience for some, and we are sorry for that.
“As a charitable operator of public spaces, LED’s role is to carefully balance artistic freedom with our responsibility to promote inclusion, wellbeing and community cohesion.”
If the Pavillion really did exist to promote freedom of expression, it wouldn’t cancel performances due to the fact it may offend people.

#morninglistening to what's arguably the most delicious #HänselUndGretel recording, thanks to the great JeffreyTate, a superbly dramatic BRSO & a stellar cast. Yumm! I dare you to take a big bite and hear for yourself. It's Humperdinck-deliciousness.

English

@Mahler18601911 Very pretty woman. I feel kind of bad for her if she sees the comments. People love being mean in anonymous social media. I agree she is not a Helen of Troy, but Nolan chose her and it won't likely harm the film
