@instantfinality Unfortunately, it’s not always true that “If the company and product actually have value that part will work itself out.” (See ‘technological determinism’ and its critics.) I do agree that fundraising makes no sense unless the fundamentals are there.

I am not a fan of Sam Altman or OpenAI as a company (and WorldCoin did not help his case either) but the backlash that started after the OpenAI decision to make management changes is a part of a weird tech bro trend which while celebrated by some, represents a concerning shift away from the core essence of what truly drives technological innovation - deep technical expertise. Firstly, let's acknowledge the value of good fundraising and lean principles. Effective fundraising can provide the essential capital needed for research, development, and scaling, while the lean startup methodology and experience in running what is probably the best startup accelerator in the world emphasize efficiency and adaptability, both crucial in a fast-paced tech environment. However, the problem arises when these skills are overvalued at the expense of deep technical knowledge and long-term product market fit. The essence of ground-breaking technological companies is the technology, so saying that technologists will somehow be completely lost without fundraisers that can work the room is both stupid and dangerous. If the company and product actually have value that part will work itself out. The only situation where it will not work itself out is if the product and the company are just a mirage anyway, and you need a good magician to manipulate people.

Using AI, I was able to take some old painting and make it better. First the painting. Notice how you can barely see what's even going on. Where even is this? Who are the people? Huh? You're too far away to really see the setup. Whole left side blank. Nothing here to grab onto.
