Het inwisselen van christelijke feestdagen voor islamitische kan mooi en onschuldig lijken, maar dat is het niet.
We mogen van iedereen verlangen om de Nederlandse identiteit te respecteren en de nationale feestdagen samen te vieren.
Langs elkaar heen leven werkt bovendien averechts voor goede integratie.

you missed my other comments. I discussed this at length.
You don't start with the checksum, you start with basic validation rules which are cheap, before you spend any cpu to test further.
Step 1 - valid first digit
step 2 - valid length for the issuer
step 3 - luhns
regex is perfectly suited for steps 1 and 2

@straceX first digit indicates the issuer of the card. when that is known, there are a specific (known) number of digits for cards issued by that issuer.
once you have the first digit - the rest is simple regex
